Gates Notes & News
January 15, 2024
I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season! The transition back to school for the students has went very smoothly and they have settled back into the learning routine. Teachers have also been busy with end of the semester assessments. Please remember that students will not have school on Monday, January 22nd as teachers participate in records day and complete second marking period report cards. Student report cards will then be emailed out following the records day.
Additionally, I hope that you all are staying warm as winter has definitely arrived. Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather and has winter gear that will allow them to comfortably play outside at recess. Getting fresh air daily is important and students will go outside if the temperature (actual or with wind chill) is above zero. Of course, we also stay in if the weather is raining or the playground is too icy. We almost always have extra hats and gloves if students forget or lose these, but if you need assistance getting winter items for your child (coat, hat, gloves, boots, or snowpants) please call and we will do everything we can to help.
Thank you for sharing your child with us!
Most Sincerely,
Natalie Miller
Proud Gates Principal
Stem News - A Note from Mrs. Carr
Hello from STEM class! Parents, as we move closer to the end of the first semester I wanted to share some of the activities we have been working on during STEM class. All grade levels have worked on the Code.org website. This website introduces students to computer programming and each student has their own account. All students have been using Google Classroom to different extents based on grade level. Students learn to work with Google Docs, Google Slides and Google drawing. These assignments are marked as “computing” grades on their report cards. Lastly, the students have been using hands-on building materials to complete projects or free design with the supplies. The report card has an “engineering” section to reflect their work for this part of STEM class. Parents will see grades given for STEM on the upcoming report card and at the end of the year. Please feel free to contact me (ecarr@davisonschools.org) at any time with questions. Sincerely ~ Mrs. Carr

For consistency, www.weather.gov is the website used by DCS to determine the temperature daily
It’s that time of year when Mother Nature can lead to school cancellations. Be sure to turn on your radio or television before your children leave for school when storms roll through our area. Better yet! Sign up for email and text alerts from Davison Community Schools and get the news before it hits the news! If you haven’t done so yet, you can sign up to receive text alerts and emails by visiting the district website at www.davisonschools.org and clicking on the Ed-Alert quick link on the left side of the site.
Winter Recess… Dress Warm!
The days are getting chillier so please make sure your child wears a warm coat daily and has a hat and gloves/mittens! It's a great idea to mark all clothing with your child’s name. Students should also be reminded that they should keep track of any items taken off outside during recess. Remember, students will go outside everyday for recess unless it is raining or the temperature is below zero.
