Resource Teachers Weekly Update
Week of 3/30-4/3
Mr. Black
This week we will be using a set of reflections and checklists to assist ourselves and our in setting up and preparing for the adventure in distance learning.
we will begin a review of Brainwise with the twist of including the application to distance learning and applying them in the new environments.
Mr. Cetro
This week, students in math and reading practiced their digital education skills through a series of tasks to be completed for practice. Students also practiced giving and receiving feedback digitally, as well as emailing their teacher for support. Finally, most students joined class Zoom sessions on Wednesday and Friday to touch base and ask good questions.
Next week, students in math will enroll in IXL and begin the Ratios unit. Students in reading will continue instruction on an individualized basis.

3rd hour A days:
This week - Students identified problems in written scenarios by type and intensity. They also are completing journal entries to reinforce coping strategies and other skills we have learned throughout the year.
Next week - Students will continue to apply previously learned skills about social problem solving in a variety of ways.
3rd hour B days:
This week - Students worked on identifying the problem in a given scenario. They also are completing journal entries to reinforce coping strategies and other skills we have learned throughout the year.
Next week - Students will continue to identify problems and the context of the problems.
6th hour A days:
This week- Students worked on reading facial expressions, defining vocabulary words and reading comprehension strategies. They also signed up for ReadWorks to use for future assignments.
Next week - A day: Students will use V/V strategies to complete reading comprehension passages. Students will use strategies to define vocabulary words.
6th hour B days:
This week - Students worked on a Time For Kids article to reinforce reading comprehension strategies and used strategies to define vocabulary words.
Next week: Students will use SIMS strategy to continue work with compound sentences. They will complete a variety of activities to reinforce those skills
Mr. Downey
This week my students should have joined Google Classroom for Corrective Reading and Learning Strategies. IEP Math has already been using Google Classroom. Parents and Guardian were also invited. Corrective Reading students were also invited to join and use both Khan Academy and IXL.com. IEP Math students have already been using Khan Academy and will be introduced to using IXL.com as an online tool. IEP Math students reviewed finding the probability of rolling a single die, drawing from a deck of 52 cards and using a spinner. They will begin a unit on Variables, Expressions, and Equations by taking an online pre-test on classroom.freckle.com to determine their instructional level. Learning Strategies students reviewed school behaviors and organization skills and developed a personal plan of action to share with me.
Next week: Corrective Reading students will review how to identify word meanings and text structure from realistic and fictional reading selections as well as, poetry and prose, and answer comprehension questions. Hopefully we will be able to use Flipgrid for progress monitoring on IEP goals. IEP Math 7 will begin a unit on Variables, Expressions, and Equations using Khan Academy and IXL.com. The content will be over combining like terms, writing and evaluating variable expressions, identifying terms and coefficients, and reviewing the properties of addition and multiplication. Learning Strategies students will continue to plan their assignments, review following difficult directions,and work on strategies for completing assignments.

This week in ELA 7: Students began our Dystopian unit and continued to review the strategies on making connections, questioning and predictions. They completed chapter 1 of the reading. Next week students will continue with reading chapters 2-3 as well as building background knowledge with vocabulary, questioning and making connections and finally creating a summary of chapter 1-3.
This week in ELA 8: Students completed their Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Theme Essay Graphic Organizer. This included finding evidence (quotes) from the novel to support a theme of their choice. Next week students will take their completed graphic organizer, the rubric we have been reviewing since the end of February and a student example paper we reviewed in class before spring break to create their own 5 paragraph theme essay.
This week in LS 2nd hour: Students worked on practicing note taking after reading informational text and using their notes to help them answer comprehension questions. Next week the class will move onto reviewing summarizing informational text.
Ms. McDaniel
This week will be an overview of classroom and zoom expectations. I will be explaining how each day will look in our new online learning. I will also give a few easy to answer question-responses to get the students back into the habit of school.
3rd hour A/B: We will review and support what is being learned in their math and ela classes with Khan Academy and Google Classroom.
7th hour: We will begin with to explore and review in the areas of reading comprehension and written expression with articles in NewsELA and CommonLit.
Mrs. Melloway
Students will continue practice with logging in to and accessing Google Classroom, applications in Google, Unique Learning Systems, EPIC!, Readworks, Mystery Science and Quizzizz.
ELA: Students will review vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Light and Sound. Students will apply previously taught reading strategies to chapters assigned in Unique Learning Systems, as well as stories assigned in EPIC! Students will review a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as use digital tools to develop 3-5 sentence paragraph about a selected topic using digital writing tools.
Vocational Skills: Students will continue to review previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and apply these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will review rating systems (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply this system to a weekly in-home jobs routine. Students will also complete an evaluation of the job. Students will complete workplace signs activities in Unique Learning systems, as well as complete a personal information form.
Math: Review previously taught math strategies for subtraction. Complete subtractions activities within Unique Learning Systems using previously taught math strategies. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts.
Science/Social Studies: Students will read the News-2-You article of the week: Stress awareness month. Students will review vocabulary for Light and Sound monthly unit vocabulary. Students will also complete a map skills, experiment and cooking activity.
Ms. Pangelinan
Wilson Reading: Tomorrow students will read a short story and answer some comprehension questions. Next week, students will continue listening to our novel and completing a response log. Please let me know if your student needs a copy of the book. I hope they are keeping up with the assigned novel readings. There will be a short comprehension quiz at the end of next week. Students will continue to practice Wilson reading strategies.
ELA 8: We will continue our poetry unit. We are also going to start reading the novel, Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes for our social justice unit. Please try to get a copy of the novel for your student to follow along with the voice recording. Let me know if you need me to mail a copy of the book to you.
Learning Strategies math: Students will be completing assigned lessons in iXL.
Learning Strategies ELA: Students will listen to audio recordings of our class novel and fill out a response. Students will also work on an essay about spring break.
