Communities In Schools Update
Hi Wolf Pack! 🐺
With the new school year underway, I wanted to send out an official introduction and reminder regarding the role of Communities In Schools and some of the services and programs I am able to provide at TAF@Saghalie.
Many of the young people we serve are facing challenges both inside and outside the classroom that affect their ability to focus and succeed at school. CIS coordinates a comprehensive range of services to support all the needs of these students--academic and non-academic-- so they come to school ready to learn. My role as a school outreach coordinator at TAF@Saghalie is to build one-on-one relationships with students and provide with the resources that they may need such as, food, clothing, and school supplies; connect them with social services in the community such as mental health counseling, or anger management support; and provide enrichment opportunities that may not be available otherwise, such as student groups, field trips, and after school programs.
Services/Programs at TAF@Saghalie include:
Lunch Bunch Student Group, Clothing, School Supplies, Girls Empowerment Groups, LGBTQ+ Groups, Service Learning Opportunities, Food Drives, Mentoring, Pregnant and Teen Parenting Support, Homecoming/Prom: Attire, Hair, and Make-up Services, Resource Fair, Snacks, Field trips, and other enrichment opportunities.
Thanks so much team!

From the Measure Lab, students measured multiple objects inside and outside of the classroom. They measured the circumference of a tree and the volume of a parking space then drew a 1 meter flower.
Run Hide Fight Safety Training
Hello Parents and Guardians,
In Federal Way Public Schools, effective staff and systems are in place every day to make our schools a safe place for teaching and learning. The safety of all FWPS children and staff is at the forefront of everything we do.
In alignment to our strategic plan and our core belief that families are critical partners in each child’s learning we continue to partner around our commitment to school safety.
Each year staff and scholars participate in safety trainings that support a safe learning environment. Safety trainings include fire drills, earthquake drills, evacuation and lock down drills. In addition to these trainings, we also train staff and scholars in the area of active danger using the Run and Hide (K-5) or Run, Hide and Fight (6-12) model.
An email with the Opt Out form was sent to families on Sept. 21 and are also attached to the newsletter.
If you have any questions, please call the office at 253-945-5000.
