UN Timeline Involvement
1946: Elected as a Security Council member , also in other years.
1952: Elected as a deputy president of the UN General Assembly,also in 1990 and 1993.
2007: Egypt nominated Farouk Hosny, the then minister of culture, to succeed Koichiro Matsuura as Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and began a campaign to have him elected to the position.
Also Egypt ranks 10th in UN peacekeeping forces deployment, the Foreign Minister’s assistant for African Affairs, Sabry Magdy said during the Africa Summit. He outlined the country currently has forces present in Darfur, Cote D’Ivoire, Congo, Mali and others in attempts to achieve stability in Africa.
