Who was Edgar Allen Poe?
Edgar Allen Poe was known for writing about murderers, and madmen, premature burials, and mysterious women who returned from the dead. Poe was considered just as bizarre as the characters in Poe's stories. Edgar Allen Poe was born to two traveling actors in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. Edgar Allen Poe was a poet who attended the University of Virginia. Poe excelled in his classes, but accumulated debt.
What was Poe's childhood like?
Poe was the second of three children, born in Boston on January 19, 1809, he had an older brother and a younger sister. Poe's parents died when he was young. Poe was adopted by a rich family and he ended up having a very close relationship with his step-mother.
How big a part of his life was filled with sickness and death?
Edgar Allen Poe's life was filled with death of dear loved ones. His mother Elizibeth died from Tuberculosis when he was 2 years old. His father died early too. Also his step mother, Frances, and his wife/ cousin died of Tuberculosis.
When did he publish his first written work?
Poe published his first book in 1827 at the age of 18. The book was called Tamerlane.
What was his most significant work?
Edgar Allen Poe's most significant work was The Raven. He had many other works but by far he will be remembered most for The Raven.

Death and sorrow are two themes from his life that show up in his work because many of his close family had died. Poe had no one that cared for him live very long.
Why was his death such a mystery?
No one knew where he disappeared to and why. There are several different theories on how he died, but technology wasn't advanced enough to identify why he died.

Poe influenced the world by showing us fictional things that weren't possible. He has been given tons of credit for the creation of the Fictional Detective and Mystery Genres.
