Lincolnway Elementary & West York Area High School Buddy Program
The Lincolnway Elementary and High School Bulldog Buddy Program kicked off their year on September 28! Established buddies were happy to be reunited with each other and the new matches were eager to begin their relationship as ‘bigs’ and ‘littles’! Students participated in ice breakers and started a memory book to document their time together for this school year.
Kindergarten Scientists Hard at Work!
Students in Ms. Kelly Lurz' class at Wallace Elementary spent last week learning about the parts of an apple, the life cycle of an apple, and Johnny Appleseed. To end the week, they had a taste test where they got to try a red delicious apple, a granny smith apple, and a honeycrisp apple. They were able to cut open the apples to see the different parts of the apples, and count the seeds as well. Students made predictions on the one they thought they would like the most, kept data on the ones they liked and didn't like while they were trying them, and at the end they shared which one was their favorite with a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down! What a yummy way learn!
Trimmer Celebrates their Summer Readers!
Congratulations to the following students from Trimmer Elementary for their commitment to reading over the summer. They recently were able to enjoy time at Sunset Lane Park as their reward.

The students would like to thank Ms. Jessica Klunk, NJHS Advisor, NJHS Members Darien Reimold, Minh Nguyen, Ava King, Sahalee Arnold, and Rowan Dennis for their leadership and participation in Thursday's ceremony, NHS members Isabella Newcomer, Sierra Shipp, and Addison Skimski for their support, and everyone who has supported them and worked so hard to make the induction ceremony possible. Congratulations to the 2023 NJSH Inductees!
Ms. Enoff's Engineers - Don't Crack Your Egg!
In Ms. Gabriell Enoff's new seventh grade rotations at the Middle School, students are challenged to put on their engineering caps and design a blueprint for a protective item for an egg. The eggs will be dropped from about eight feet in the air onto cement and the goal is to have the egg survive the fall without cracking. Students first evaluated the materials that they were given and individually designed a blueprint. Some of the materials in the box include: paper, string, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, and tape. Then, as a team, they collaborated to create their ultimate team blueprint. Teams began to build their designs to see who will be the ultimate egg drop winner!
Stay tuned next week for which materials provided the best protection and who the winning team is!

Volunteers Needed for our Upcoming Jr. Achievement Programs
Each year, our Middle School and High School host two impactful Jr. Achievement programs - REAL Life and YES! Both programs are highly interactive, engaging, and create some eye-opening moments for the students.
REAL Life is a day-long financial literacy and career-readiness program for high school aged students.
The YES! program is a half-day program with activities intended to help middle school students gain an appreciation for the importance that financial and career decisions will play in their lives as young adults.
These two programs are possible only with the help of volunteers like you! There is no experience necessary as training is provided and JA representatives and WY teachers are on hand if needed. You can check out the Frequently Asked Questions and register to be a volunteer via the links below.
