SRL Book Talk Round Table

Thursday, Sep. 12th, 5:30-7:30pm

720 Hawthorn Center

Vernon Hills, IL

Books, friends, good food. What else could you ask for in professional development? This event will provide you with a fresh list of titles that you can incorporate into your classroom instruction or independent reading choices. Most of all, it will be an opportunity to collaborate with fellow teachers and leaders in the secondary education world. Discussion tables include: best read-alouds, graphic novels, novels in verse, leveled libraries, LGBTQ, Equity, Social Justice, and professional resources. Books will be available to purchase from our friends at Barbara's Bookstore immediately afterward. Appetizers will be served by Maggiano's. We look forward to seeing you there. Please sign up via the link below. Barbara's Bookstore in Vernon Hills, IL Thursday, September 12, 2019 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

SRL Book Talk Success

We are so happy with another successful event! We hope that you all get an opportunity to come to our events. Here are some comments from attendees about the book recommendations:

- Juliet Zabel is looking forward to reading Dig because it provides different perspectives of multiple characters.

- Renee Yunker is interested in Unpunished Murder because it is a story that must be told.

- Christy Rush recommends getting Bloom because it is a great addition for libraries in need of graphic novels and LGBT friendly material.

- Leigh Cavanaugh shares that Startalk is a text that students can go to for quick inspiration.

- Brittany Jacobs is intersted in Hey Kiddo because it seems to be a very relatable topic.

- Terry McHugh recommends Blacklisted because the parallels between the Hollywood "Communist" era and today are compelling.
