November Elk Trax
2022-2023 National School to Watch
From The Principal:
November has arrived and we have so much to be thankful for at Elkton Middle School! ! As we begin to move through this month, I want to outline some important events in the life of EMS.
November 8th: Parent Conference Day 12-7pm: If you have not scheduled a conference, feel free to call the school and schedule with the secretaries to visit your child's team. If the conference slots are full, our teachers are more than willing to meet with you to schedule a conference during their planning time.
November 15: 6pm Faculty Basketball Game This is the biggest night of the year at EMS. Our BLUE team will take on our GOLD team of your very own faculty and staff! All profits will benefit the Monica Barlow Scholarship foundation. Admission will be $5 and pre-sale tickets are sold during lunch. November 22: Day of Service at EMS I am excited to bring back the day of service for our students this year. We are still in the final stages of planning activities. Please read this carefully!
Your child is asked to do 6 hours of volunteer work- work where they are not paid. This can be as a service to help people, work at a local agency, or anywhere. If they complete 6 hours outside of school, they DO NOT have to come to school on November 22. (the volunteer hours count as being present for school).
If they do not have a way to complete volunteer work on their own, they can come to school on November 22 and we will have things planned. Students attending school on November 22 will be assigned a volunteer location and a permission slip will be sent. We are waiting to finalize how many students will be at school to lock in our Nov 22 volunteer work for students who do come to school that day.
It is IMPORTANT that ALL students turn in a Day of Service form so we can finalize the plans.
As you can see, Elkton Middle has a busy month and so much to be thankful for. As your child's principal, ,I am thankful to have them at school, our students are what make the days great!
Have a great month and I really hope to see all of you at our faculty game for a great cause!

Nurse Clinic Information
We're rolling into the month of Thankfulness as the year seems to be flying by already! We have so much to be thankful for each day. One thing I am thankful for is our school, each student and every single person that works extremely hard to keep things rolling day in and day out. Without one another we could not do this thing each year. So thank you to everyone and to you parents/guardians for all you do each day for your students and our community. When we work together so much can be accomplished!
Now on to Nurse Clinic information...
We are in the season where we see and hear about sickness a lot. We have been seeing a lot of Flu A, hand, foot and mouth, RSV and just some viruses rearing their ugly heads. Please continue to monitor your child before sending them to school. If they have a fever, keep them home. Evaluate them before putting them on a bus and sending them. Practice standard precautions with hand washing, coughing into your elbow, staying at home when not feeling well, and seeing the doctor when needed.
Some things you can do to help boost your immune system is make sure to get the appropriate amount of rest each night, eat a well balanced diet, stay hydrated and take vitamins that boost the immune system. Some doctors are recommending that you take vitamin C, D and Zinc. But check with your doctor and they will lead you on what is best for you and your family to do.
I hope everyone has a Great time of health through Thanksgiving with their family and friends!
If you have any questions at all feel free to reach out to me @ 540-298-1228 from 8-4.

Library Updates
The book Fair was a success! Thank you to all of the teachers, students, staff, parents, and community members who made purchases form the book fair. With your support we were able to purchase over $1000 worth of new books for the library!
Battle of the Books! Our book club is in full-swing! We meet once a month after school. Our next meeting is Thursday, November 17th after school until 4:15 in the library. We are preparing hard for our upcoming trivia competition.
Water Bottle Sticker Challenge!
Wow! Mrs. Kitta is blown away with the participation in the monthly reading challenges. 65 Students earned the September water bottle challenge sticker by reading a book written by an Hispanic author. 35 students completed the October challenge by reading a "scary" book. November is non-fiction. Any student who reads a non-fiction book during the month of November, and writes a book review on Destiny or sees Mrs. Kitta for a book talk, will get this month's reading challenge water bottle sticker.
