VES Bluebird Update

December 2018/January 2019

We have been so busy at VES. Our final week of school has been filled with winter and holiday activities, class parties and a whole school meeting and sing along. Our VES family wishes you the very best for a happy holiday season and a Happy New Year! Enjoy this special time with your friends and loved ones.

Don't forget that Friday is an early dismissal day! Parent Pickup will begin at 1:15.

Young Scholars Institute - Another Successful Year!

With your support, our VES community provided holiday meals for 30 families and gifts for 41 children, all members of the Young Scholars Institute. There was also an impressive amount of donated clothing, of all sizes, available to families. Teachers and staff members delivered the items on Saturday, December 15th. Please see the newspaper cover story!

Many thanks to Ms. Hum, our master organizer, for growing this project each year and helping to orchestrate this amazing effort. We are so proud to continue this partnership after more than 25 years! Thank you for your role in making it possible!

Report Cards Will Be Available beginning February 8th at 4:00pm.

Cold Weather and Recess

Students think with clearer brains when they have a chance to get moving. To help with this, we will be holding recess whenever the weather allows.

Please expect that we are planning for outdoor recess and dress your child accordingly. Hats, gloves, scarf, a heavy jacket and appropriate footwear are MUST HAVES!

Does your child love science? Are they always coming up with better ways to do things?

Then the Science and Invention Convention is the perfect forum for them! This is a wonderful STEM event for all students in 3rd-8th grades.

During this non-competitive event, each student or student team will prepare a project in advance to discuss with an evaluator. Upon completion of the presentation, each student will receive a medal and certificate of accomplishment! Between sessions everyone is welcome to visit the science and robotics demonstrations.

Registration deadline is January 14th.

There is a $20.19 entry fee per student participant. The fee includes a t-shirt, medal and a certificate of completion.
