December 4 or 5 - 4:30 p.m. - Year 1 & 2 Resident Educator's Webinar - Academic Rigor

Year 1 and Year 2 Resident Educators, are you preparing for the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) next year?


The RESA guidelines contain directions that incorporate academic rigorous learning expectations for students and academic rigorous content for instruction. How do you define “rigor”? What does rigor look like when designing lessons or when instructing students?


Resident Educators and Mentors, attend this one-hour webinar for information and discussion on the importance of academic rigor and how to incorporate rigor into your lessons. The session will include a close look at the tasks, questions and criterion aligned with academic rigor.

December 5 - 9:00 a.m. Gifted Student Connections (3rd Grade)

Give your students who are gifted opportunities to interact with other students who are gifted! Breakout sessions will include:

  • Academic enrichment, STEAM challenges (design, build and learn the science behind a fidget spinner).
  • Problem Solving and Deductive Reasoning Activities.
  • Collaboration Skills.
  • Social Emotional Awareness.

If you are a teacher of grades 2-8 in any subject area and are looking for enrichment resources and ideas, this is where you will want to be on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Earn 6 contact hours toward the Gifted HQPD requirement.

December 8 - 9:00 a.m. ASL Workplace Seminar - First Responders

MVESC offers workplace seminars customized to the needs of businesses and organizations who want employees to learn American Sign Language (ASL) to improve communication with customers, clients and co-workers. Qualified deaf and education consultants use a variety of resources to develop high quality materials and engaging training sessions that fit the needs of the organization. We conduct surveys prior to the training to ensure our professionals meet your unique staff needs. Click here for the flyer.

December 8 - 8:30 a.m. "Advanced" ETR/IEP Training

Why Should You Attend This Training?
  1. Gain a deeper knowledge of the ETR process and receive resources to support the development of district comprehensive collaborative ETRs.
  2. Obtain hands-on training around the development of present levels, well-defined measurable goals and objectives, and align methods for progress monitoring and specially designed instruction. Please bring a copy of an ETR and IEP of one student to use during our training activities. Be sure to remove any identifying information.
  3. Learn ways to effectively share baseline data and student progress with the IEP team, including parents.


Who Should Attend This Training:

  • Intervention Specialists
  • Psychologists
  • Administrators
  • Related Service Personnel


Fee: $25 for member districts/$50 for non-member districts

Dr. Shawn K. Smith will share best practices and latest insights outlined in his new book, The New Agenda: Achieving Personalized Learning Through Digital Convergence.


Learn more about a) the methodology for achieving goals toward modern learning, and b) the collaborative possibilities of networking with fellow district leaders.


Dr. Shawn K. Smith is a former teacher, principal and most recently served as Chief of Schools for Chicago Public Schools. He currently serves as President of Modern Teacher and a national leader on issues surrounding digital education and pedagogy. Dr. Smith is compelled to preserve education’s rich heritage and support America’s teachers and leaders as they transition traditional classrooms into modern learning environments.
