Improve Balance and Prevent Falls
Falls among the elderly are prevalent, dangerous, and can diminish their ability to lead an active and independent life. According to the National Aging Council, about one in three seniors above age 65, and nearly one in two seniors over age 80, will fall at least once this year, many times with disastrous consequences. A physical therapist can help you prevent falls by designing an individualized program of exercises and activities with an emphasis on strength, flexibility, and proper gait.
Balance may be improved with exercises that strengthen the ankle, knee, and hip muscles and with exercises that improve the function of the vestibular (balance) system.
Once a physical therapist has reviewed a complete medical history and conducted a thorough examination, he or she will develop a personalized plan of care. This may include a walking regimen with balance components such as changes in surfaces/terrains, distance, and elevations; Tai Chi (which emphasizes balance, weight shifting, coordination, and postural training); and aquatics classes geared toward balance and coordination. The physical therapist also may teach specific strengthening and balance exercises that can be performed at home. If necessary, the physical therapist will refer you to other medical professionals, such as an ophthalmologist or neurologist.

I choose this article because I liked reading more about balance and what people can do to prevent from falling. I work with old people and I know that their balance is sometimes not good. Some people use walkers or crutches to improve their balance. I found this text interesting and fun to read.

Summaries from Ted.com
5 ways to kill your dreams is a lecture about myths to ensure your dream projects will never come to fruition. Brazilian entrepreneur Bel Pesce speaks in this lecture. She talks about 5 ways how not to follow your dreams. First one she talks about is to believe in overnight success. Second one is to believe that someone else has the answer for you. No one else has the perfect answer for your live. Third one is to decide to settle when growth is guaranteed. so work harder when you are growing. Fourth one is to believe that the fault is someone else's. Fifth one is to believe that the only things that matter are the dreams itself. Live is never about the goal itself it's about the journey. Yes you should enjoy the goal but when you fully want to succeed you should enjoy every moment that lead up to your goal. In the end she said believe my if you do those five things you will destroy your dreams.
I choose this video because I like what she is saying about how to kill your dreams. I sure hope I won't kill my dreams and those five things that she said would kill your dreams made a lot of sense. Of course it will kill your dreams if you don't enjoy the journey that lead up to your success. I will try to make my own decisions, and not to expect that someone else has the answer for me.
Want to be happy? Be grateful is video were Brother David Steindl-rast a monk and interfaith scholar says that the one thing that all humans have in common is that each of us wants to be happy. He said that happiness is born from gratitude. This is a educational, inspiring lesson in slowing down, looking where you're going and what you are doing, and most of all, being grateful. Some people have a lot of things and they always won't more and forget to be grateful with what they have. The key to being happy is bee grateful and live gratefully. Every moment is a given moment, it's a gift that is most valuable gift that is ever given to us. You should be very grateful for the opportunity to be a live and have time to do things. We hold the key to our happiness with our own hands and the opportunities that we have. We shouldn't be grateful for everything for example for war, or loss of a friend or family member or unfaithfulness. But try to be grateful to rise and be grateful for the time we have, to learn, to work and to love. The method to being grateful is to stop, look, go. But we forget to stop, we rush through are live and forget to stop. So stop, look around you and go.
I choose this video because it makes a lot of sense what he is saying. We need to be grateful for every moment that is given to us. We don't know when we don't have more time and how long our time is here on earth. People should be grateful for what they have, not everyone have water to drink everyday or food to eat like we here in Iceland have. Some people don't even have roof over their head. I'm going to remember to be grateful for the things that I have in my life. I'm going to use my time carefully because I don't know when my time is up.
I think we all need pep talk is inspirational video. 9 year old boy commands people to wake up, listen to your beating heart and create something that will make the world awesome. He says that the world needs you to stop being boring! Everyone can be boring. He says that if live was a game, are we all on the same team? He quotes Journey and Journey said, don't stop believing unless your dream is stupid. You should keep on going! No matter what. This is your time, this is my time, this is our time ! We were made to be awesome! You just need pep talk!
I choose this video because this kid is very inspiring and he is only nine years old. He talks about that you shouldn't give up, no matter what. We are all on the same team, and that makes a lot of sense. Of course we are all on the same team, we are all just trying to do our very best, living our lives. We all need some encourages from other people and create something that will make us awesome.
