TELPAS Testing
Spring 2022
Texas students who are designated as Limited English Proficient (LEP) are assessed annually for progress in learning the English language. In response to federal testing requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA), the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has developed the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). This system consists of reading tests, listening and speaking tests and holistically rated assessments of listening, speaking, reading (for K-1 students), and writing (for grades 2-12).
TELPAS is administered to all LEP students, including LEP students who do not participate in a bilingual or English as a second language (ESL) program because of parental denial.
The TELPAS Reading is a state-level measure of current reading proficiency levels and annual progress in learning to read English. Holistic ratings are teacher assessments of writing in grades 2-12 and listening, speaking, reading, and writing in grades K-1. Together they provide an annual measure of student growth.
Students at Boggess will take:
TELPAS Reading between February 23rd-March 4th.
TELPAS Listening and Speaking Tests between March 15th-24th.
A trained certified rater will rate your child using the holistic TELPAS observation assessment system between March 28th-31st.
After June 3, 2022 parents/guardians can go to the TEA Texas Assessment Data Portal http://texasassessment.com to access the Student Report Card which is the official score report provided by the state. As always, we wish to keep parents involved and informed about student programs. Please contact Jill MacLaughlin (jill.maclaughlin@pisd.edu) if you have any questions.
