Dear Rock Creek Families,It is hard to believe that it is March! As I greeted students this morning, I noticed that the sunshine and birds really brought a lightness to the morning. We are all hopeful that the spring will continue to lighten the burden of COVID in our schools. Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff during these challenging times. Please keep yourself in the loop by reading updates from the district and our school as many changes are likely to continue to happen this spring.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Email is usually the best way to contact me. I always look forward to connecting with our families.

How to talk with your children about the Ukraine:
It's challenging to know how to talk with young children about what is happening in the Ukraine. Cheri Lovre from the Crisis Management Institute has written a blog post to address this for parents that I think you will find helpful. https://cmionline.com/talking-with-youth-about-ukraine/
CHROMEBOOK AND IPAD CHARGERS
We are missing Chromebook and iPad chargers. If your student had a BSD iPad or BSD Chromebook to use while on Temporary Remote Learning, please check and see if you have a charger laying around. Please send them to school with your student.
Our IT department thanks you!
ROCK CREEK PARENT-TEACHER CLUB (PTC)
Hello Rock Creek families,
It is with heartbreak that I have resigned as President of the PTC. We are having a family health emergency and I need to go out of state to be with my family and help handle this devastating loss. It has been my pleasure to get to know many of you and to be part of the vibrant school community at Rock Creek Elementary School. My stepdad's stage four cancer is more aggressive than we saw coming and the decline has been rapid. Due to the uncertainty of when I'll return and to what availability, it makes the most sense that I step down from the President role to not hold up the organization in anyway. I look forward to volunteering alongside you in the future.
In the meantime, our 1st VP will be assuming the President duties with the support of other board members. To reach her, please email 1stVP@rockcreekptc.org

Both Final Four battles will take place on Thursday March 3rd. The Championship battle will take place on Friday March 11th.
Please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns.

STATE TESTING INFORMATION (OSAS)
In 2010, Oregon adopted higher K-12 standards in English Language Arts and Math to ensure all students move from grade to grade with the academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. The state tests: challenge your child to think critically, go beyond multiple choice and ask your child to explain their answers, act as a snapshot of your child’s progress, and help us identify schools that need additional supports to ensure more students are meeting higher standards.
Rock Creek with be taking our state test throughout the month of May. Your classroom teacher will communicate the exact dates.
You can find more information by going to the Assessment page on the district website,
See the download for the official notification form from the state which also has an Opt Out Form.
Please note, we are accepting opt out forms through the beginning of May, we encourage you to fill them out as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Testing Coordinator, email@example.com

CHANGE OF AFTER SCHOOL PLANS
Please be sure that your child knows what they are doing after school, before they leave in the morning. If there is a change to their normal dismissal plans, please send a note, email or ParentSquare message the teacher. If the teacher is not notified of the change by a parent, students will be sent home per their normal plan. We ask that phone calls with change of plans be limited to emergencies only. Urgent messages should not be left on teacher voice mails during the school day. We cannot guarantee that last minute messages will be delivered before the end of the day. Thanks for helping us limit classroom disruptions.
PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE
If you call the school and don't get an answer, please leave a message. We often have only one person in the office answering calls, the doorbell and escorting kids to and from class and may not always be able to answer right away. We are unable to answer the door or phone between 3:00 -3:10 pm. Your call is important to us and we will call back as soon as we can.
Thanks for your understanding!

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Spring’s Steps to Bicycle Safety
With more people itching to get outside to walk and bike, it’s a good time to review the rules to ensure everyone’s safety. Be sure to review the best routes to use and if biking, check the bike’s condition before you head out. This short video, “ABC Quick Check” can help!
Here are a few steps to remember:
Always wear your helmet
Ride in the same direction as traffic, not
Be visible. Wear a bright jacket or add
reflective material or blinking lights to increase visibility.
Stay alert and ride predictably, in a straight line.
If riding on the sidewalk or in a crosswalk, ride at walking speed and be prepared to walk
your bike when it gets busy or at the request of crossing guards. Be always mindful of
pedestrians and aware of traffic.
Don’t assume that drivers see you – always watch for cars making turns or backing out
of driveways. Learn bicycle safety skills in a class or ask Safe Routes to School to give a lesson at your school!
Very Important: Please label your students coats, hats, lunch boxes, water bottles etc with their names.
NO DOGS ALLOWED ON SCHOOL CAMPUS EXCEPT FOR CERTIFIED SERVICE ANIMALS
