A Note from the Principal
It was so wonderful to see so many of you at our Parent Open House last week! As I mentioned in my introduction, that evening was one of the first opportunities for us to build a positive relationship between home and school. Thank you for seeing the value in that evening.
I encourage you to read the letter regarding MAP testing that can be found here or in today's communication folder. To prepare your child, be sure he/she gets enough sleep each night and eats a healthy breakfast each morning. I would encourage him/her to bring along a healthy snack to eat and water to drink during the day. All of these things will help your children as they prepare to take the tests each day. The MAP testing window is from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 27.
God bless,
Ms. Diane Raguz

Robotics and STEM Club News
Robotics Club
There will be an organizational meeting for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students interested in joining the Robotics Club after school on Wednesday, September 11 in the Jansky Learning Center from 2:35-3:00 PM. Students will learn about our robotics program and get instructions about how to apply for membership. Please be aware that there are factors that limit club membership to twenty-five students, and attendance at this meeting does not guarantee membership in the club.
STEM Club
The deadline for submitting an application for the junior high STEM Club is tomorrow, September 6, 2019. The form requires signatures from the student, a parent, and last year's science or math teacher. Students will be notified about their membership next week.
Morning Arrival
- Students arriving by car are not permitted in the building until 7:40 a.m. Remember, if you need to drop off your child earlier, you can enroll him or her in the Before Care program.
- Make sure your child is ready to leave your car before you stop. If you need to take some time with him or her, park in the parking lot and walk your child over to the school. No child is permitted to walk across the parking lot on his/her own.
- Remember when children are exiting your car, all should exit on the passenger side for safety reasons.
- As you leave, please proceed to Blue Ribbon Way (exiting on Wilson Mills) only.
- Buses have the right of way. Please allow them down the driveway before your car. Often bus drivers will allow cars to go first, but never count on it!
- Give your child enough time to walk to his/her homeroom. As the weather changes, the car rider line becomes longer and time gets later. Develop the habit of getting here with many minutes to spare!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as the safety of all of our students is our foremost concern.
Playground/Lunchroom Volunteer Sign Ups
The links to sign up for playground/lunchroom supervision for parents/guardians of students in Grades 7-8 are now live!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 8 or Grade 7
