PSAT for Juniors on 10/16/19
All OECHS Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 16th, beginning at 9:30 AM. Students will bring their belongings to R102A (The Burrow) and then report to their assigned seats in CE103. The test will begin at 9:30, so plan to drop off your belongings to the Burrow, use the restroom, and go to CE103 before 9:30! Good luck, Owls!
SPA 111
1. PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions) will begin on Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:00 in CB 102 for OECHS SPA 111 students.
2. Sr. Sandoval will begin tutoring sessions to prepare OECHS students on current class content on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:00, in the Spanish classroom.
3. CCCC Spanish instructors will also offer "Lunch and Learn" study sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the title suggests, these sessions will occur during lunch time and will focus on remediation of content covered in the first two SPA 111 tests.
Finally, OECHS students will be permitted to retake a different version of their first two tests in SPA 111. This is optional for all OECHS students in SPA 111. They can retake either of the first two exams, or they can retake both. This is a one-time event. There will be no other retakes.
Retakes will occur in CE 107 at 2:00 on:
November 4th (T/TH students for Exam 1)
November 5th (M/W students for Exam 1)
November 6th (T/TH students for Exam 2)
November 7th (M/W students for Exam 2)
All OECHS SPA 111 students are able to take advantage of the PASS sessions, tutoring, Lunch and Learn, as well as the test retakes. All of these are mandatory for any of the OECHS SPA 111 students that currently have a D or F in the course.
Thank you to the administration and staff of Coastal Carolina Community College for making the opportunities possible!
RISE, 2.8 GPA, and Academic Probation
Of of the new methods to allow students to take Math and English courses is to have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 or more. Another method is to take the new RISE exam. It is a very difficult exam and there are no study guides for it. This exam can only be taken two times in the course of ten years.
Sufficed to say, we need to avoid having to retake another exam or delay admission into Math and English courses! To guarantee that OECHS students stay on pace in their graduation requirements for OECHS and CCCC, they need to maintain a 2.8 GPA.
If students have a GPA below a 2.8, they will be placed on Academic Probation, meaning that they will only be permitted to engage in only one club activity per week. The rest of the club time in the afternoon will be devoted to increasing their grades and overall GPA.
Please contact Mr. Strope (james.strope@onslow.k12.nc.us) if you have any questions!
