Kirk Fenton News
7th February 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
This week has been Children's Mental Health week nationally and we started the week with an assembly led by Mrs Cameron to raise an awareness of this using the strap line 'Finding Your Brave'. Each class has been doing some work around mental health, what it is and where children can find support. We are very lucky to have a variety of support in school including Mrs Bamforth who is trained in supporting children's mental health through the Thrive Approach and a weekly visit from a trained children's counsellor from Just B who works with individual children. We also have a peg system in each class for children wishing to alert staff if they wish to speak privately to an adult. The week culminated today in children wearing odd socks to school to symbolise the concept that it's okay to not be okay.
We were visited on Wednesday by Donna Kettle, our School Improvement Advisor. This half term her visit focused upon the Early Years and Key Stage One and she was very pleased to see the great work that has been going on there to support learning in reading and phonics, providing our pupils with a solid start to their education This is such an important area for our youngest children as reading provides the foundation for all other subjects in school. Research has consistently shown that reading to your child is the best thing that you can do to support their education so please speak to your child's teacher if you would like advice on this.
Finally, you will be aware that we have had a spate of dog fouling outside of school which we have reported to the relevant authorities but please do be vigilant where you walk as you come and go.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Karen Williams
