We are Learning...
Next week in reading we will continue to focus on informational text. Students will learn that when reading informational text, they may need to approach their reading differently! We will discuss that the author and illustrator of an informational text may be an expert and is trying to teach the reader something new! We will learn to become experts on using the table of contents, and the glossary! Next week, we will be reading and comparing various gingerbread man stories! Be sure to ask your child which version was his/her favorite!
Math:
We will begin division and will be working on our math portion of our Gingertown PBL! Students will be using a variety of skills such as: measurement, addition, subtraction, area, fractions, perimeter, & more to help recreate Gingertown!
Writing:
We are still busy working on opinion writing! We will then begin working on our gingertown PBL business proposal
Word Study
Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We are focusing on 13 new vocabulary words for the next 2 weeks. Those words are: income, profit, economics, need, want, resources, tragedy, effect, design, supply, scarcity, opportunity cost, and surplus!
Social Studies:
We will continue our study of economics. Students will describe how people in a community use productive resources, create a variety of businesses and industries, specialize in different types of jobs, and depend on each other to supply goods and services.
