Colonize This: Young Women of Color on Today’s Feminism
The inclusion of historically marginalized voices is essential for instilling power in feminist movements to advance the goals of women everywhere. The second edition of Colonize This!, published in 2019 and edited by Daisy Hernández and Bushra Rehman, gives space for often excluded women of color to tell their stories in their own words. Colonize This! is highly recommended by Career Design to anyone looking for their next read. Broadening your understanding of intersectional identities is a great way to educate yourself and be an ally to frequently underrepresented communities.

Meet Ali Salinger!
Ali is an Assistant Director in Career Design with experience working with students in the health sciences and education. Ali is a career pivoter, having been a school counselor for grades K-12, working in admissions, and alumni relations, but finally finding her way to Career Design. Ali’s passion is anything culinary and loves sharing cooking experiences with family and friends, occasionally bringing in treats for her colleagues.
Along the way, Ali has realized that she enjoys helping students navigate their unique and individual paths in whatever way she can. She enjoys helping students see their potential and the value they bring to the world. When it comes to navigating your own career journey, Ali says, “Only you know you best. It’s important to follow your instincts, but it’s also important not to get in your own way. Breakdown barriers, be patient with yourself, be kind to yourself, and above all, be brave enough to have an open mind to better yourself.”
