The Cedar Ridge Weekly
Feb. 28, 2021
Message from Dr. Ramirez
Hello Cedar Ridge Learning Community,
I hope that your and your family are doing well. Finding balance in work and play during this pandemic can be challenging. During the break between the rain, I took out my Jon boat to do a little fishing. As you can see, the ducks had the same thing in mind: enjoying the lake on a beautiful Saturday morning. And yes, the fish were biting.
We started with our hybrid, in person Plan B Orientation last week with 9th grade students. Our opening was perfect! It was wonderful to see some of our students on campus, nearly all of them 9th graders new to the physical school. This week we add 11th grade students to the mix. We practice and enforce the 3Ws. Students who do not follow the expectations will be moved back to 100% remote learning. See this OCS Return to School Video for more information.
ALL STUDENTS-BOTH HYBRID AND VIRTUAL SHOULD SIGN IN TO CLASS AS USUAL.
Pre-covid, we were able to communicate vital information concerning various topics. We held announcements, student meetings, assemblies, and seminars in person with students. We were able to connect with 99% of our students. However, during remote learning, we are limited to virtual meetings and email, and not all students and parents read emails or see videos.
To limit the number of emails from our school, and barring the need to transmit urgent information, each week you should only receive two emails from me. These have timely and important information. They are sent at 6:00 p.m on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
The Cedar Ridge Weekly, this newsletter, is sent out on Sunday evenings prior to the next Monday students are in school.
Mid-Week Update is sent out every Wednesday.
Occasionally you will get a message from me that I was not able to include in the Mid-Week or CRHS Weekly. These are rare, however.
If you are not getting emails from CRHS, please email tracy.carver@orange.k12.nc.us.
We will be making adjustments to our Friday schedule. These will be announced in our Mid-Week Update message, so please be on the lookout for that.
We are starting a new tradition for our seniors this year. We now have a Senior Courtyard - the grassy area between the new J-wing, Gym and student parking lot. The sidewalk from the parking lot will be sectioned off to allow seniors to paint their squares. We are excited about this!
Thank you for the much appreciated partnership with you, our school community. Together we are making remarkable progress through all of the changes we are enduring.
Best,
Dr. Carlos Ramirez

PTSO Meeting on Monday
Please join us for our next monthly PTSO Board Meeting, to be held tomorrow evening (March 1st) at 6:30 PM via GoogleMeet.
Here is the link: meet.google.com/wnv-uozw-yfq
As always, all are welcome! We are actively seeking increased parent involvement as we look toward next fall. We will have a few Board positions available, but would welcome ANY level of involvement.
If you are interested, please try to attend tomorrow's meeting, or shoot us a quick email at crhsptso@gmail.com. Our plan is to hold a brief informational meeting later this spring to talk about how new members might get involved. There are many small ways to help that would really make a difference in the level of support we can offer our teachers and staff.
Hope to "see" you there!
Best,
Lauren Drake
President, CRHS PTSO

IB Art Exhibitions for the next 6 weeks at Margaret Lane Gallery!
Please congratulate and share in the celebration! Our IB Visual Art Seniors this year will be having gallery exhibitions over the next six weeks. Covid will not and did not stop their success! Under extremely isolating circumstances all six visual art students found their voice and put together wonderful works that they have been developing for the past year and a half. The "Daily Tar Heel" just published a very nice article featuring a few of the students and the upcoming exhibitions.
https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2021/02/arts-cedar-ridge-high-seniors-gallery
Though under the Covid conditions there will not be opening receptions this year, each pair of students will have their gallery exhibition, open to the public, at Margaret Lane Gallery as listed below. (masks required) Come out and enjoy the 3 exhibitions: Our Moment in Time with works by Michelle Castellanos and Melissa Garcia Corona, A Kaleidoscope of Emotions featuring works by Juni Anderson and Marlee Rakouskas and The Shape of Life Through Color displaying work by Olive Youngblood and Maria F. Arredond.
https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2021/02/arts-cedar-ridge-high-seniors-gallery
