Valentine's Workshop at Parent Teacher Conferences

Tomorrow is our drop-in Valentine's Workshop, February 13th, 1-7pm. We hope that your children will be engaged in a fun Valentine craft while you are able to focus on your parent/teacher conference(s).

Kids Explain Black History Month

Celebrating African-American History Month

February is African-American History Month, or as it is commonly referred to, Black History Month. Our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) committee has created a beautiful showcase and our Buddy Helpers have written scripts for our morning announcements.

Coffee & Conversations

We invite you to join us for our first Coffee & Conversations!

Join us for coffee and conversation as we gather together to strengthen and develop an inclusive community among ALL of our families. This session will be facilitated by our incredible special education team. All parents are encouraged to attend. We hope that you can join us, and childcare will be provided.

When: February 13th, 6-7pm

Where: Media Center

Who: All BPES families

What: Inclusive topics and building peer relationships around communication while enjoying coffee and sweet treats! This event is in collaboration with the PTA.

Why: Our hope is to promote an understanding that there are a variety of ways people communicate with each other and how we as a community can promote acceptance and inclusion.

All are welcome, but RSVP if possible. This will help us to ensure we have enough treats as well as plan appropriate for childcare.

Artist in Residence: Christina Delgado

On February 3rd, the fourth grade welcomed Christina Delgado, artist in residence. During the residency, students were asked to bring in an object that symbolized something important in their life. They took photos of the object and wrote a poem to tell it’s story. At the end of the residency, the parents of fourth graders, third and fifth graders, took a gallery walk of the students work. Couldn't attend? No problem. Take the virtual gallery walk to see the student's work.

PWNP February: Chocolate Box Challenge

Each year before Valentine’s Day, PWNP collects chocolate boxes and requests small needed items to deliver to those less fortunate. Their shelters are in great need and we can help. From February 1st through the 14th, we will be collecting mini heart-shaped chocolate boxes, along with the products listed below. All products will be donated to our area shelters: Youth Empowered Society, NEST, Howard Community College Food Pantry, Grassroots Crisis and Intervention Center and Sarah’s Hope.

Needed Items

  • Heart shaped chocolate boxes (small size)
  • 100% juice boxes
  • Individually wrapped snacks (granola bars & chips, etc...)
  • New Insulated water bottles
  • New White twin sheet sets
  • New Grey washcloths
  • New Grey bath towels

Help us spread kindness to those in our area who need it most!

Hearts Up to the Leo Club!

The Leo Club made 15 no-sew fleece blankets at their January meeting.

The blankets were donated to Frederick Memorial Hospital's pediatric unit. The funding for the blankets came from the Leo Club's bake sale table at BINGO night!

Leo Clubs are a youth organization of Lions Clubs International. The word "LEO" stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. LEO clubs encourage youths to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities.

Golden Scissor Box Tops Collection Contest

We are in the final two weeks of the Golden Scissor Box Tops collection contest. Please be sure to send all entries by Thursday, February 20, 2020. For clips please include a slip of paper with your student’s name, grade, and home room teacher. For digital earnings, send a screen shot of your earnings to boxtops.bpes@gmail.com or print the screenshot and place it in the collection box with child’s name, grade and teacher by the deadline. The PTA will be doing a drawing from all family memberships at the end of February for a copy of the book I Walk with Vanessa.

A Night with the Stars - The Bushy Park School Dance

Join us on the red carpet Friday, March 6th, 6:30-8:30pm.

BPES students from Pre-K to 5th grade (only please) are invited to and may be escorted by a special adult to this magical evening.

Tickets are $8 per adult / $4 per child and available for purchase online at:

Science Fair

Calling all young scientists! The BPES Annual Science Fair is March 11, 2020!

It is time to prepare for the Annual Science Fair at Bushy Park Elementary School

Parents may register their child to participate in the Science Fair by completing the registration form online or the PDF below. The deadline to register is Monday, March 2nd. If you have any questions contact Chairwoman, Dina Goldman, at bushyparksciencefair@gmail.com.

BASA Online Registration & Payment

The PTA is pleased to announce online registration and payment for our Before & After School Activities (BASA).

How does it work?

  1. Select an Activity: Visit https://www.bushyparkpta.org/basa.
  2. Online Registration: Visit and complete the activity's registration form. If you are paying by check, you will provide your check number with your form submission. If you are paying by credit card, you will be directed to our MemberHub website.
  3. Online Payment: After submitting your registration form, you will be directed to visit our MemberHub website for credit card payment.
  4. Receive Confirmation from our BASA Chair: Our BASA Chair will confirm your registration by email. Please expect an email from bpes.asa@gmail.com.
