ASVAB Testing
On Tuesday, October 17, from 8am-11:30 am, Lackey High School will conduct ASVAB testing for any interested Junior or Senior. There will be limited seating (50 students). The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) helps identify which careers you qualify for. It does NOT bind you in any way to joining the military. CCPS is also offering a test date in the Fall on November 18, 2023. There should be at least 30 days in-between testing sessions that you participate in. As a reminder, if a student is going to use their score for enlistment, the military will pull the most recent score. You can also visit the Media Center or the College & Career Center for study books.
Two great study websites are www.march2success.com and www.asvab-prep.com
Please click here to register for the ASVAB test.
**Important Information for All Years in High School**
GRADES: Your grades don't need to be perfect. But, always make an effort to keep your grades up. This may mean going in to talk to teachers, getting tutoring, or spending long hours in the library. That's OK. Remember that your lack of resources is not used against you and your grades are looked at in the context of your experiences.
KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR EXTRACURRICULARS: What you do when you're not eating, sleeping, homework-ing. These are not just things you do after school, but things that take up your time that are not classes. Community service, volunteering, clubs, sports, church, jobs, community groups.
SUMMERS: Consider working, participating in academic enrichment programs, summer workshops or volunteering at community organizations.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Start forming relationships with teachers, employers, religious institutions or community organizations. Letters of recommendation should be from someone who knows you well and can speak positively and honestly about you. For instance, you're better off getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows you well but got a low grade with than from a teacher whose class you did well in but doesn't know you at all.
