A Message from the District Superintendent:
I want to compliment our school community for such a great first semester.
Our District cannot perform at a high level without the continued support and commitment from our community. It is evident throughout this district that we have a community that is entrenched in the successful outcome of our students. Students do their best when parents and other adults from the community are actively engaged in their schools. We know that students learn best when they apply their lessons to real life situations, the kind they encounter in our community.
The Gainesville R-V School District web page and monthly newsletter continue to grow with pertinent information. I would still encourage parents to keep a watchful eye on their students’ progress through the student information system portal. If you do not have access yet, please contact a building level office and they can get you access.
Our board of education has started the discussion and planning process for a future building project. We are currently evaluating the school district's biggest needs. The school district is also in the application process for a FEMA shelter that would be located on our campus. I will be reaching out during the next few months to our school community on ideas for any potential project. The district has a great opportunity to improve the learning environment and safety of our students.
I want to thank every parent and community member who has contributed time and energy to the successful education process at Gainesville.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey Hyatt

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS & GIRLS BASKETBALL
Boys Basketball Highlights
Gainesville Boys Basketball (8-6)
We have been playing well but are sturggling to gain momentum after a tough loss to a good team. The team is about to finish up a difficult stretch in the season. We hope to continue to play well and pick up some more wins in January and February while we prepare for Districts. We have home games 1/9 vs Sparta and 1/12 vs Dora.
The Boys Basketball team went 1-2 in the Cabool Tournament over Christmas break. We won the first game 74-44 over the 9th seeded Couch Indians. In the second round, we lost to the number 1 seed - Thayer, In the consolation bracket, the 4th seeded Licking Wildcats won 62-48. We had a very tough draw but I thought we competed well.

Academic Team Places 3rd in Houston Invitational Tournament
Outstanding work in the preliminary rounds from both Ben Pointer and Hunter Webb earned them individual recognition. The “cardiac arrest award” goes to Hunter Webb for answering the final question in our final game of the tournament which tied the match and allowed our team to move ahead at the very end.
The hard work from these students through this season has landed them an invitation to participate in the National Tournament. This will be our fourth straight appearance at this invitation-only tournament hosted by NAQT. The tournament will be held in Chicago, Illinois in the spring.

Student Council News
Spirit is in the air as Gainesville High School Student Council is planning the annual Homecoming ceremony and dance. The Homecoming theme this year is “The Bulldogs Are Out of This World!” As Student Council prepares for Homecoming, they are planning an exciting Spirit Week and will soon be taking orders for Homecoming Spirit T-shirts. As people walk into the gym the night of Homecoming, they will follow the hanging paper mache planets created by the Art Department from the lobby to the gym. The gym will be decorated in a starry theme with lights, lights, and more lights. After the crowning and the games, Student Council will set up for their dance, which will be open to all high school students.
In addition to planning Homecoming, Student Council is hoping to make Valentine’s Day special by selling carnations. Order forms will be passed out and due back before the end of January. The money raised from the fundraiser will go towards the scholarship funds offered to seniors at the end of the year.

Principal's Reading Challenge
As part of the Principal’s Reading Challenge, 53 students “knocked down” books and were rewarded by getting to knock down some pins. Students in grades fourth, fifth and sixth were presented with a challenge to reach a certain amount of AR points. The students that reached their goal were taken on a bowling trip for their accomplishment.
