Congratulations to the recipients of the Boyd PTA Life Membership Award!
Frances Uribe has been an incredible asset to Boyd Elementary PTA over the past two years. She has served as a volunteer in our library and as the PTA Treasurer. We are so grateful for her organization and her attention to detail in keeping our budget updated. As a parent, staff member, and PTA Board member, she has an unwavering dedication to serving the Boyd Elementary community.
Olivia Pearson is always willing to go above and beyond to serve the staff, students, and parents at Boyd Elementary. Over the past 2 years, she has served as a PTA Staff Representative, and she is always ready to volunteer her time in all PTA events. She has served in the Financial Reconciliation Committee and the Board Nominating Committee. This year, she has taken on the role of Parliamentarian. As a teacher and PTA member, she is committed to all students receiving an excellent education and to building strong relationships with the families she serves.

The Boyd PTA is now accepting applications for our 2021-2022 Executive Board and Standing Chairs!
The Executive Board is filled by the PTA Nominating Committee and voted into their positions by the general membership on April 22. The Nominating Committee will only be slating the Executive Board. Nominations for the Standing Committee Chairs will be taken, but are appointed and approved by the newly elected officers.

Executive Board Positions
PRESIDENT – Presides at both PTA Board meetings and General PTA school meetings (a minimum of four meetings per year) plus attends four District meetings per year, and oversees all functions of the PTA.
1ST VICE PRESIDENT, PROGRAMS/AIDE TO PRESIDENT – Plans programs for General PTA meetings; assists the President, presides in absence of the President. (Thanksgiving Feast, End of Year event, Spring family night)
2ND VICE PRESIDENT, WAYS & MEANS (FUNDRAISING) – Responsible for as many fundraising projects as needed to meet the PTA Budget for the year, and any other moneymaking projects PTA decides to hold. (Spirit Wear, and School Supplies)
3RD VICE PRESIDENT, MEMBERSHIP – Responsible for membership recruitment
SECRETARY – Records business at all Board and General PTA meetings, must have basic typing & computer knowledge, responsible for correspondence reminding Board members of meeting dates.
TREASURER – Works along with President on all financial matters for the PTA, must have basic bookkeeping abilities and computer knowledge, understanding of tax matters is a bonus.
PARLIAMENTARIAN – Must have knowledge of the parliamentary procedure, advises the President of any changes needed in by-laws, etc.
Chairs and Committees:
- HISTORIAN – Maintains a record of the PTA through pictures and media clippings (yearly scrapbook).
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR – Organizes copy room volunteers, room parents, library help, and any other volunteers needed for the school and PTA functions
LEGISLATIVE – Informs PTA and school parents of any legislative actions affecting the Allen ISD and PTA.
REFLECTIONS/ARTS IN EDUCATION – Organizes Boyd’s Reflections competition (a national creative contest sponsored by PTA). Works with the school for all cultural programs coming into the school for assemblies.
ENVIRONMENTAL – Responsible for any environmental issues affecting the school, city, state or nation; organizes Environmental Poster Contest for the school in the spring.
STAFF APPRECIATION – Plans ways to recognize faculty throughout the year, coordinates Teacher Appreciation Week
PUBLICITY – Works with PTA, school Principal, and teachers to promote and advertise all PTA functions and events; must have typing and computer knowledge in order to write articles. This also includes Twitter and Facebook accounts.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – Organizes and is the contact for the Box Tops
COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE – Attends all Allen ISD Council of PTAs general meetings, shares happenings at Boyd, and reports back to Boyd PTA Board with city-wide information.
BILINGUAL LIAISON – Translates PTA documents and communications for Bilingual families
BOOK FAIR COORDINATOR- Plans and organizes the book fair. Is the contact for scholastic to make decisions. Book fair happens in fall and spring. Can also coordinate one at the end of school.
EAGLE RUN COORDINATOR- Coordinate with the school to promote the Allen Eagle Run event, attend meetings held by the council for this event.
GATE Academy Information
Each year, Allen ISD hosts an informational meeting for parents providing information on the GATE Academy and the lottery process. This year’s informational meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be facilitated via Zoom webinar. To join the webinar meeting, please go to https://zoom.us/s/93895219688. There is no need to register for the meeting. The recording of the meeting will be posted to the Gifted & Talented Services webpage and to the GATE Academy webpage for those who cannot attend the live webinar session and for those who wish to review a recording of the information.
The window to apply for a 2021-2022 GATE Academy seat will be open from March 23-April 5, 2021. Once the application opens the evening of March 23rd, it can be accessed at https://forms.gle/WD7Bvro2QH19ewSN7.
Please note, the GATE Academy lottery is open to Allen ISD students currently in grades K-5 who are already identified gifted and have participated in AIM this year. Students who are in the process of testing for potential gifted identification this spring are not eligible for this year's GATE Academy lottery. This is the same as previous years. Should your student be identified through this year's testing and begin AIM in the 2021-2022 school year, they will be eligible for next year's GATE Academy lottery.

Talking to Young Children about Bias and Prejudice
1. Expose kids to more positive images of other racial groups.
2. Help your kids develop cross-group friendships.
3. Cultivate cross-group friendships yourself.
4. Talk explicitly about race and the effects of racism.
5. Work to combat biases in yourself.

Upcoming Attendance Credit Election
Allen ISD will hold a special election, known as an Attendance Credit Election, on May 1 seeking voter approval for the district to pay recapture by purchasing attendance credit from the State with local tax revenue. An attendance credit is simply the name given for a district to equalize its wealth through recapture payments.

COVID self-assessment check must be done. Please see the student screener linked here for questions to consider prior to coming to campus.
Masks must be worn at all times.
Keep social distance from staff and students while on campus. No close contact interaction with students and limited interaction with staff members in the designated areas.
Stay in the designated volunteer area during the time on campus. No visits to classrooms or areas with students such as the cafeteria.
Watch Dogs at dismissal/arrival will be limited to the use of air hugs, elbow bumps, or air high fives when greeting students to avoid direct physical contact.
Library volunteers will be limited to one volunteer per day at the designated time frames.
Kinder Registration for Next School Year
Pre-K students currently enrolled and attending Allen ISD at Rountree or Cheatham do not need to re-enroll for kindergarten.
The first day of school is scheduled for August 11, 2021.
