UMAC News- November 20, 2015
Dear UMAC Families,
After Thanksgiving break we will begin our second round of MAP testing. Our class will be taking both the math and reading test the first week of December. This round of testing serves as a checkpoint for determining whether students are on track for meeting their spring MAP goal. Students have revisited their math and reading goals that we discussed during conferences. Ask your child what his/her goals are for reading and math and how they have been working to attain those academic goals.
Sincerely,
Michelle Barrett

MATH
New Friends: New friends took the Unit 4 assessment on Wednesday. In unit 5, your child will begin to multiply 1- to 2- digit numbers. Students will play the game Multiplication Wrestling to for more multiplication practice. Ask your child to explain the rules to you, and suggest to play at home. We will explore partial products, lattice multiplication and the " traditional" algorithm throughout this chapter. Please keep studying facts at home!!
Old Friends: This week we worked diligently on our long division skills. I have told the students that as with multiplication, there is more than one way to solve these types of problems; however, in class I will be focusing on the traditional (“old school”) method. Please remind your child to PRACTICE multiplication and division facts until they can immediately recall the answer.Have a great weekend!
