Principal's Message
Dear Hustlin’ Hawks of Greenfield High School,
Welcome back to school! I hope you had a relaxing and refreshing summer. As we begin this new school year, I am excited to see what we collectively can accomplish.
We are certainly off to a great start! I would be lying if I said we didn’t have some conversations about what attendance might look like on the first day of school. With a one day week, leading into an extended weekend, following a Thursday night football game and Marching Hawks Halftime Show against Whitnall (Go HAWKS!), we weren’t sure exactly what the hallways might look like on Friday morning.
I was so proud that when we ran our attendance count that we were at 97.5% that I had to share the news right away! We put this on social media and have talked about the importance of this number and how it shows leadership in action to each of our classes during our grade-level class meetings to begin the year.
As a staff we are committed to learning as much as we are teaching and we will continue to share stories of our learning with you throughout these newsletters. Our focus this year is centered around understanding the needs of a modern learner. How many times have all of us thought about how different of a world our children live in compared to when we were in school? We may frequently ponder this question in an off-hand moment, however our staff, guided by our teacher-led School Leadership and Innovation Team (SLAIT), is doing this work in a real way. We will share updates based on our learning with you, and you can join us on this journey.
Thank you for your support. We are excited and honored to be entrusted with the care and learning of your child and we look forward to growing our partnership throughout this year.

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARD OUR GOALS
Our School Goal for the 23-24 School Year includes fostering student involvement and engagement throughout our school community.
As part of our preparation for the school year, we read the article, Honoring the Teen Brain: A Conversation with Thomas Armstrong and participated in discussions and activities that helped us each honor the experiences and development of our student population. It's shared here for you, in the case that you would like to learn along with us!
We are also hosting class meetings this week, which, among other topics, will include a message from our new Athletics and Activities Director, Nina Rouse, on ways that students can get involved in extra-curricular activities this year.
How can you help?
Check in with your child(ren) to see what they might be interested in joining to be a part of the GHS community this year. Join us at the Back to School Night on the 14th to talk with advisors and sign up.
We appreciate your partnership and look forward to seeing our Hawks Fly High!
Ways to Get Involved This Month...
Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off
Hispanic Heritage Month runs 9/15 to 10/15 annually. To kick-off celebrations, GHS is welcoming My Piña Eats, a local Hispanic food truck, to our home football game on Friday, September 15th.
Did you know?
- By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores.
- Missing 10%, or 2 days per month, over the course of a year can affect a student's academic success.
What can families do?
- Make school a priority—Talk to your children about the importance of showing up every day, help them establish a healthy routine for homework and sleep, and ask them how each of their classes are going.
- Help your teen stay engaged—Encourage your student to get involved in meaningful after-school activities and stay on top of their social contacts.
- Communicate with staff at GHS--Ensure your information is updated in Infinite Campus, know the school attendance policies, check on your teen's attendance, and seek help from school staff, other families, and the community if you need support.
The Pre ACT - 9th, 10th, and 11th Graders
On Tuesday, September 12th, all ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students will take the PreACT during the school day. Students will need to be in their assigned classes to begin right at 7:30, and the assessment will end at noon, at which point they will be dismissed for the day. Twelfth graders do not need to report to school on 9/12/23, and should use their time to learn about and/or apply for postsecondary opportunities. Click this link for more information from PreACT.
