I will be holding a Virtual Return to School Family Meeting on Tuesday, August 24th at 5:30pm, you can join by clicking here. The session will be recorded and shared with the community for those unable to attend live.

Topics to be covered during the meeting are:

  • CPS Health Protocols - screeners, air purifiers, social distancing, lunch/recess, entry, dismissal, water fountains, bathrooms, contact tracing, quarantine process.
  • Student Re-Engagement & Support Plan
  • School Schedules
  • What to expect on the First Day of School
  • Teacher led family meeting overview scheduled for Thursday, August 26th
  • Preview to upcoming family meetings

If there is a topic not listed above that you have a question related to, please enter it on this form, we will do our best to answer as many of your questions as possible.

While many families and students are very excited to return to in person learning, I recognize that there are many who have reservations as it relates to the health and safety of our students. Please know that I am working closely with our school leadership team, district leadership and school staff to create a healthy and safe learning environment for all.

Sincerely,

Lori Zaimi

Principal

New Staff Member Introductions

Nana Adu: PK to 4th Counselor

Hello everyone! My name is Miss. Adu and I will be joining the counseling team this fall. I am a recent graduate of DePaul University and alumni of Illinois State University. I love to hang out with my friends and family in my free time and force them to do karaoke. I am currently trying to acquire as many plants as I can for my apartment. I am super excited to meet and get to know all of you!

Richard Crawley: 4th to 8th Physical Education

Mr. Crawley received his Major in Physical Education and second Major in Health Sciences at Northeastern Illinois University. There he studied various activities that benefit student’s physical health and mental well-being, along with encouraging team building and positive views with physical activity. During his time at NEIU, Mr. Crawley volunteered for the Illinois Special Olympics along with collaborating and developing community outreaches hosted by the University.

With a passion for physical activities and sports, Mr. Crawley participated in Track and Field, Wrestling, and Cross Country during his adolescent years. As an adult he volunteered assistant coaching Boys/Girls Track and field hurdles for a High School in Crystal Lake, and for fun he enjoys physical activities such as cycling, kayaking, volleyball, tennis, and racquetball. Mr. Crawley enjoys finding new activities to spend his time and hopes he can pass down his passion of physical activity to future generations.

When it comes to physical education, Mr. Crawley states that, “My goal is creating meaningful and positive physical education experiences that are accessible to all students; that every student has the encouragement to better their physical health, and relationships with others. Developing these traits in their youth, will help them build an ongoing positive relationship with physical fitness."

Student Fees

Pay your student fees here:

https://magic.collectorsolutions.com/magic-ui/Login/cps-24891-helen-peirce-internat

*Peirce lost $300,000 in funding as a result of our decrease in poverty rate. Funds collected from school fees go towards the purchasing of classroom materials along with other school-wide needs to keep our school operational. We understand that some families are unable to pay the fee while others may be able to pay more than what we ask for - if you are able to contribute more, please consider doing so. If you are unable to pay the fee, we understand. If you are able to pay part of the fee, please consider making a partial payment.

Meet Your Teacher

Teachers will hold a virtual meet and greet on Thursday, August 26th from 2:00 - 3:00pm and will be reaching out to families with their meeting links along with other classroom specific information that families need to have to prepare for the first day of school.

Open House

School Year 2021-2022 Calendar

Classroom Assignments

Classroom assignments are now available in Aspen. While we do our best to limit classroom changes once they are posted, there are times when we still need to make changes after they are posted as we have a variety of factors that may impact final placements. In those few instances, we will communicate with families directly.

Free After School Programs

Peirce received Out of School Time funds to provide free after school programs from 3:00 - 4:00pm for students in Kinder through 8th grades. Brooke Thompson organizes this program and will share program sign up information in the middle of September.

Morning Entry Detail

This document indicates where teachers will meet students on the first day of school.

While we love family pets, Dogs and Animals in general are not allowed on school grounds - please help us keep our students safe!

Students are the only ones that will enter the building through the Gregory side of the building, Visitors to the school will enter at door #1. Due to COVID 19, most inquiries will be handled at the door and not in the school building.

First Day of School: All teachers will meet students in their designated exterior location at 8:00am.

All other days: Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st Grade teachers will meet students in their designated exterior location at 8:00am. 2nd through 8th grade students will walk up on their own beginning at 7:58am. On days where there is extreme rain or cold, students will be able to enter the building at 7:50am through their same entry door, but will wait in the Inclement Weather Entry Location.

Peirce Pre-Kindergarten Branch, 5300 N. Broadway
Entry: Families are able to drop students off at 7:45am for early entry. An early entry time is available for families who will have children at both the Branch Location and the Main Campus. At 8:00am teachers will meet students on the Berwyn side of the building to bring students in who did not arrive early.

Dismissal: Teachers will line students up on the Berwyn side of the building for dismissal for families to pick up their child.

After School YMCA/Fee Based Program Update

Peirce will be able to offer a temporary fee based before/after school program until the Lakeview YMCA has enough staff to manage the program completely. PK Branch Families and all students that are currently on the Lakeview YMCA wait list should have received an email from LZaimi@cps.edu with information on the temporary school-based program. If you did not receive this email, contact LZaimi@cps.edu.
