The Roanoke Island Settlement
In 1585 ,English colonist attempted to settle Roanoke Island, in now what is now in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.The 1st people in Roanoke Island ran out of food, and went back to England in 1586. The 2nd group of people in Roanoke Island vanished from Roanoke Island in 1587. When the supply ships came they found an abandoned colony with "CROATOAN" carved into a post and "CRO" carved into tree bark.
The Battle of Roanoke Island
It was 1,000 of years the site of ancient settlements. Archaeologist dug holes in the early 1980's at the Tillett site at Wanchese have reveled evidence dating back to 8,000 years. Wanchese was used as a seasonal fishing village for 1,500 years before English colonial settlement. Ancestors of the Algonquin-speaking Roanoke coalesced as people in about 400.

John was an English artist, explorer, and mapmaker. He was a governor of the English settlement that was on Roanoke Island which is now called (North Carolina.) In April 1585, White sailed on a journey on Roanoke Island. Also John White was born in 1540. John White died in 1598. He was born in England and died in Kylemore, Ireland.
