What is Hanukkah (Chanukkah)?
Hanukkah is a Jewish celebration that occurs on December 24th 2016 through January 1st 2017. It seems that they celebrate this holiday different times each year but really they celebrate it on the same date each year. This holiday is an 8 day celebration, that includes yummy Jewish foods and fun games.
What foods do they Eat?
The Jewish foods they eat are (Jelly Donuts) sufganiyot and latkes (potato Pancakes), these are topped with their choice of applesauce or sour cream. They also eat ruglach witch is pictured above.

1 st you light the middle candle called the Shamash it is not counted as one of the Hanukkah candles. Then you let them burn with 1 day worth of oil.
The history behind Hannukkah
More then 21 centuries ago the holy land was ruled by the Syrian Greeks who thought to forcefully Hellenize people in isreal. A small group of faithful Jews defeated 1 of the strongest Armies in the world. They drove the Greeks from the land then reclaimed the holy temple in Jerusalem rededicated to the service of G-d. When they found to light the temple menorah they found a cruse of olive oil that had they had broken free by the greeks. the one day supply of oil burned for 8 days. until new could be prepared. Then to commemorate and publicize these miracles the sages instituted the festival of Hanukkah.
Why is Hanukkah Important?
It reminds us against the danger of Hellenization. it teaches us that our connection with God is remaining.
