"The Steady Hand"

Mrs. Hughley, thanks for your commitment to the children and families in our community over the past 29 years. We will miss you dearly. However, we are consoled knowing you will continue your quest of building a community of lifelong learners. Much success in your future.

Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

CYCSI would like to congratulate the graduating students from the Class of 2019! We will dearly miss many of the students who participated in our Afterschool Program through their time at PS176. These students served as role models to the successive students within the program and PS 176 school. We wish them all luck on their future endeavors and hope to see them accomplish more big things soon!

P.S. 176 participated in District 29 15th Annual Science and Technology Fair on Saturday June 1 this year. Our students competed with other schools to see which projects were the most creative and which ones most accurately portrayed the scientific method. Our students received awards from Kindergarten to Fourth Grade. And, one of our students, Jasmine McGeachy, moved from her third place win last year in kindergarten to first place this year in 1st grade. Community Service

Big picture
Our theme for the month of May was Community Service so we tasked our volunteers with writing a response to why they feel Community Service is important and how they feel it impacts their lives or others:

Brandon

"Community service has taught me that certain things are bigger than myself. Devoting my time to service work has made me realize the power that people have when they come together. I've been witness to this power while being a part of the culminating event at C.Y.C.S.I. , and I can easily say that there is a fulfillment that comes from it that rivals any other."

Maria

"Community service is important because it helps build a stronger community. Having a community join together mentally and physically gives the community great value. Community service also teaches the up and coming generations what it takes to be a good community member."

Mekhi

"Community service is an essential part of life that everyone should involve themselves in. Not only does it serve as a humbling experience but it helps you realize that you can make a difference. It assists in teaching you that you alone are enough to make a change and a huge impact in your community. Being able to give back to the community in which you live in is a blessing itself. Overtime being able to see the difference you made is incredible and community service has been a very amazing and cathartic experience for me."

Tassonique

"Community service is important because it helps to keep our community clean. It also has built my leadership ability. Community service not only benefits me, but everyone in and around it. "
