Forest Grove Falcon Update
September 15 - September 22, 2022
Message from the Principal
Dear Forest Grove Families and Staff,
Our students, staff and families are fully immersed in the school year. As I walk the classrooms and spend time in the hallways and playgrounds, I see students who are engaged in the learning and actively participating in play.
Many of our services for students include intervention in English Language Arts and mathematics as well as counseling services. Many of our students are supported by one, two or three adults at school besides their classroom teacher. Teachers collaborate at least once a week in their grade level and are consistently engaged in dialogue about how to better support student's individual and collective needs.
I would also like to recognize our PTA and encourage each and every family to become a member of PTA and to volunteer for at least one of the many great events planned for the school year. Please recognize their commitment by joining and volunteering at the events.
We are focused on equity, learning and well-being. Students enjoyed the Anti-bully assembly and we will continue to build on the See Something; Say Something slogan so everyone can be an ally.
Goals 1 and 2 - Instruction
English Language Arts and Mathematics - student learning focused on growth
Goal 3 - Visual and Performing Arts
All subjects are supported twice a month - engagement, access and understanding
Goal 4- Social and Emotional Supports
Schoolwide and throughout the day - education: coping skills, social interaction and peer support
Goal 5- Maintain School Safety
Safety Awareness - See Something; Say Something
Let's get the walking shoes ready for Walk to PRIDE this Saturday, September 17 from 9 am to 12 pm. See the attached flyer. The funds raised support our classroom field trips, instructional material and class projects. I personally will be at a previously scheduled event, but will be cheering for everyone.
I look forward to welcoming you on Wednesday, September 21 from 5:30-6:30 pm. Falcon Family and Friends with Principal Irene

School Attendance
3 Ways to report absences:
*ParentVUE app
*Attendance line (831) 646-6559
*Email: fgattendance@pgusd.org
Please make sure you call the attendance line at 831-646-6559 if your child will be absent or arrive late to school.
If we have not heard from the parents to report an absence, an automated system will call and send an e-mail to let you know your child is not in school. Please make sure we have your current phone number and e-mail address on file.
Important Reminders:
* Parents/Guardians may verify student illnesses up to 14 days throughout the school year before a note from a doctor/clinic is required, including students who arrive at school after 9:15 a.m. for an illness/medical appointment or for an all-day absence for illness or medical appointment – or combination thereof. Each subsequent absence (15 or more) requires a note from a doctor/clinic.
*Any students arriving late to class are considered tardy. Students arriving to school more than 30 minutes late or students leaving school more than 30 minutes early without presenting a valid written excuse from a doctor, dentist, or orthodontist are considered truant, and report as an unexcused absence. All students arriving late to campus must report to the office before going to class. Students leaving school must be signed out at the office by a parent or an adult listed on the student’s emergency list.
*Taking a vacation? or missing school? You can apply for up to 10 days of Family Leave with the school so that your child's absences do not count towards truancy. Forms need to be turned in to the school office at least 2 weeks prior to the missed school days. Fill out the form here.
If we have not heard from the parents to report an absence, an automated system will call and send an e-mail to let you know your child is not in school.
Please make sure we have your current phone number and e-mail address on file.
Please call the office (831) 646-6560 if you have any questions.
Mrs. Babas, Office Manager
Mrs. Pinheiro, Attendance Clerk

Lunch Information 🤩
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students! Each student is offered one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal every school day. To ensure the student is receiving a complete meal, the student must take a fruit, vegetable, and/or juice with their meal. If they do not wish to consume it, they may leave it on the "share table or basket" for any other student to enjoy. For up-to-date information on our department and for menus, please visit our website.
Memorizing student's 6-Digit Student ID Number
We are required to utilize our Point of Sales system to maintain a record of students dining with us. To ensure the serving lines move along smoothly, we encourage families to work with their children to learn and remember their 6-digit Student ID number. This number is inputted into our Point of Sales when the student receives their meal.
Food Service Substitutes - we are hiring!
We are looking for subs! If you are interested in substitute positions with Food Services, please visit here.

PTA INFORMATION
Chalk Art Festival, Friday, September 23
Kim Stone, a Forest Grove parent and artist, is designing and organizing our annual Chalk Art Festival with Amber Pacheco. Every year Forest Grove students color in a large, colorful, pre-drawn, chalk mural on the 2nd level black top during part of their PE class. It is a BIG job and we need lots of parents to help facilitate.
It will be a beautiful finished product by the end of the day, showcasing our creative school community having fun and working together.
* On Friday, Sept. 23, please have your students come in clothing/shoes that are not near and dear to them! They will be getting messy!
