Home Connection
Rote counting is important because children need to memorize the number names so they can associate each name with a symbol and learn them in the correct sequence. Please practice counting to 30 many times during the day. Count when you swing, count while the bath water fills, count as you wait at a stop light ... Keep the kids counting!
Parent Connection / Resources
View our Social Emotional Day Video to learn how we teach our students strategies to cope, to self-regulate, to celebrate, and acknowledge each other.

This link will take you to many resources, such as a Bitmoji page where you can listen to 9 different children books with your child on various important topics, like kindness, being unique, and acceptance.
Family Check-in -- Please complete the Google Form to let us know if there is a need in your family we can assist with.

Message from Nurse Byrd
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Due to challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, your child has not gotten a vision or hearing screening. Vision and hearing problems can affect a child’s wellbeing and their ability to learn. The Department of State Health Services encourages you to take your child(ren) to a medical provider for well-child exams. During these appointments ask for vision and hearing screenings. If your provider screens your child, please provide us results (pass or fail) for our records.
Signs of vision problems include:
• Squinting,
• Tilting the head,
• Sitting too close to the television,
• Rubbing eyes constantly, and
• Moving eyes in abnormal alignment.
Signs of hearing problems include:
• Your child wants volumes louder than other members of the family
• Your child often says “What?”
• It seems like your child isn’t listening
• Your child seems to hear fine sometimes and not others
If you think your child has a vision or hearing problem, contact your school nurse. Discuss your concerns with them right away.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Byrd BSN RN
Estimado padre o tutor:
Atentamente,
Lindsay Byrd BSN RN

COVID - Quarantine - CHANGES
By utilizing data and following district values, MISD has decided to modify its quarantining criteria for students and staff members. Beginning April 19, the start of the Sixth Six Weeks grading period, students and staff members who are consistently and properly masked while being exposed to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 will not have to quarantine.
Nurse Byrd will be informed of all student absences due to illness. Based on what parents report will determine the level of follow-up from her; for example, parents who report their child having COVID-like symptoms will receive a phone call.
All 3 COVID-19 exclusion re-entry criteria must be met:
1. 24 hours have passed without fever or the use of fever reducing medication
2. Improvement in respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath)
3. At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared OR
Submit a medical professional’s note with an alternative diagnosis OR
Obtain an acute infection test that comes back negative for COVID-19
If you have any questions, please contact LindsayByrd@misdmail.org.
Please understand that this is meant to ensure safety for all students and staff.
