Don't Forget to Drink Water!

With the increasing temperatures, we are seeing an increase in visits to the office for heat-related and dehydration concerns. Please remind your student to drink water and bring a water bottle to school. We have two water filtration stations on campus where students can refill their water bottles, along with multiple drinking fountains around campus.

Please help us by not only reminding your student to drink water but also by encouraging them to eat lunch and get a good night's rest. That may help them stay healthy and happy on campus during these hot days!

Be safe, Spartans!

8th-Grade Promotion Ceremony

Tuesday, June 6th, 9:30am

3927 Marconi Avenue Sacramento, CA

Please join us for the 2023 8th-grade Promotion Ceremony!

We hold this event at the Arcade Community Church, which is conveniently located nearby at 3927 Marconi Avenue. We use this venue because it has ample parking and the auditorium is large enough that we do not need to parcel out tickets to families. Each family can bring unlimited guests!

The auditorium doors open at 8:45 A.M., so guests can find seats. Promoting 8th graders must also arrive at 8:45 A.M. and report immediately to the Gym, so that they can participate in the procession. If students arrive late, they will miss the procession, but they will still be included in the event.

Please see the map below and make note of parking areas, where the Gym is located, and where the main entrance is for guests.

Updated Information About M.S. Boundary Changes Below!

Big picture

Dear Arcade Families,

As shared last month, San Juan Unified will be adjusting middle school boundaries at five middle schools (Arcade Fundamental, Arden, Katherine Johnson, Starr King and Winston Churchill). The proposed map webpage features the ability to toggle between the three options and each features an address look-up where residents can enter their address to see which middle school would potentially be assigned to their address (See link below.)

Three proposed middle school boundary maps are now available and the community is invited to share their feedback (click on the first red button below to view the maps and use the second red button to look up your address with the proposed boundaries).

Only one community feedback session remains! All parents, guardians, community members, and staff members are invited to attend. Register here to attend this feedback session.

  • Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. - Virtual meeting option

*SJUSD will post a recorded version of the virtual meeting for those who cannot attend. Feedback about the boundary change process can be provided at any time using this form. All feedback collected throughout the process and map recommendations are expected to be shared with the board in August 2023.*

Title I Family Engagement Policy

Arcade Middle School has developed a written Title I Family Engagement Policy with School Site Council and it is now available. While Arcade designed this policy with Title I families in mind, the policy supports all families and students.

More Summer Opportunities for Students Added below!

Rio Americano High School is offering a very special summer camp opportunity for current 8th-grade students (incoming freshmen).

The camp will be hosted by the Presidents of the Rio Americano Mock Trial Team, a team that has won numerous times in the 43 years of the Mock Trial Program, most recently in 2021.

Here is a message from the President of the Mock Trial and Speech and Debate team at Rio Americano:

"I am the president of Mock Trial as well as Speech and Debate at Rio Americano, and I'm excited to share what I’ve learned along the way with your students through our Mock Trial Summer Camp! The camp will be three days (August 5-7) and focus on the basics of Mock Trial and public speaking. We will spend two days teaching students the basics of a trial: Direct and Cross-examination, objections, witness portrayal, and opening/closing statements. On the third day, students will have the opportunity to participate in their own Mock Trial and be witnesses and attorneys!

This (completely free!) camp will help students interested in Mock Trial learn more about the program, and perhaps guide curious students to a fun extracurricular. Students can also connect with like minded others from across the district before high school. I love Mock Trial, and am excited to introduce students to my passion! Any incoming freshman can participate!

The case we will be using is the People v. Cobey, a real high school Mock Trial case from the 2021-2022 school year. This case is a first degree murder or voluntary manslaughter case. In the case, Jamie Cobey is accused of killing their landlord, Erik Smith. The prosecution will argue that Cobey killed Smith by putting a Mojave rattlesnake in Smith's mailbox to avenge the death of Cobey's mother."

Any current 8th graders/incoming freshmen, regardless of the high school they are attending, can sign up now!

Updated Information for 6th - 8th Grade Summer Basketball League Registration!

An updated message from Coach Dwyer:

"The 6th-8th grade league will play games on Saturdays. 1 game per week. 1 practice per week, the coach will pick practice times. The program runs from June 12th to July 29th. We will be off for the week of July 4th. We are hoping to have a boys league and a separate girls league. We need 24 players to have a league. If we don't get 24 boys and 24 girls on one level, it will be a co-ed league. As far as what group you are in, you are the grade you are in right now. So, if you are an 8th grader right now you can play in the 6th-8th grade league. We would like to do a draft this year. If you have some special circumstance schedule-wise, please list it in the comments when you sign up. Such as you can't practice on certain days. You cannot request to be with another kid. We won't be making team changes after the draft. We had a great summer league last year and we want the league to grow in year two. If you are in high school and you want to coach for about 50 community service hours for college or high school community service quota call Elle soon. Any questions Call Elle at (916) 488-2810. We would love to have all of you kids join us soon!"

Registration begins on April 24th, 2023, and ends on June 2nd or once a team is full.

*Registration WILL NOT be accepted at your school site; registration will be accepted online and at the District Office located at 3344 Mission Ave., Carmichael.*

New Breakfast and Lunch Menus!

PLEASE NOTE:

When calling the school to report an absence or to clear an absence, please choose OPTION 1 from the main menu.

Information on Early Dismissals from School

Please avoid picking your student up early from school. It is important that students are only pulled from class when absolutely necessary, so they do not miss valuable instruction.

At Arcade, we receive a lot of early dismissal requests in the last 15 minutes of school, which is very disruptive to individual classrooms and the office. Please do not arrange for an early dismissal within the last 15 minutes of school.

If you must make an early dismissal request during lunch, please allot extra time, as it is very difficult to locate students at lunch. We are unable to make an all-call because other classes are still in session during both lunches. If it is absolutely necessary to pull your student out of school early during the lunch period, please CALL AHEAD so that we can notify your student before lunch, so it won't take as long to find your student.
