Hello Families, In third grade we are going to be focusing on writing biographies. Your child’s bottle biography is due Feb. 10. These are to be done at home while we do the writing part at school. We will continue our investigation into multiplication and division throughout this month. Please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes every night and contact your child’s teacher with any questions! Thanks! | #4thGradeFamilies,
Our fourth graders have been hard at work for the first half of 3rd Quarter learning about long division, multi-digit multiplication, the electromagnetic spectrum and waves, and the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush! We are looking forward to having a Valentine’s Party on February 14th with our kiddos. We will allow the students time during our class party to exchange Valentine’s cards and candies… please just make sure there is enough for everyone in their class. Your child’s teacher will send out more details about the Valentine’s party that is pertinent to their specific classroom. We are also looking forward to meeting with you all in February for our Parent/Teacher/Student conferences. This time around, it will be student-led, so your child will need to come with you! Your child will be busy creating a slideshow with many updates to share with you about their progress throughout 4th grade! Please be on the lookout for a sign up genius to sign up for a time slot when the time approaches. A few reminders: students should be charging their laptop at home nightly and bringing it to school as well as a healthy snack and a water bottle for class. We all appreciate the support you all have given to the fourth grade team this year and we couldn’t do it without you!
Thanks again! -Your Mesa fourth grade team | Hello families!!!! Here is a breakdown of what 5th grade will be working on through the month of February! MATH: We started the new quarter off with multiplying and dividing fractions. The kids are using the skills they have been building on to be able to show their thinking by modeling with number lines, tape diagrams and numerical expressions. We are practicing getting our students to explain their thinking out loud to get ready for state testing. Families can help us out by encouraging your student to continue to practice outside of school by logging into Zearn, Khan Academy or extra practice packets provided by your child’s teacher. In ELA, we are moving from Unit 3 to Unit 4 which will cover biographies, drama and poetry. We will also continue to practice CMAS writing prompts by organizing our thoughts into a graphic organizer, writing a thorough rough draft and final draft. Our students will identify author’s point of view. In Science, we are transitioning from Topic 1: Types of Matter to Topic 2: Physical Changes of Matter. We are actively encouraging students to participate in lesson labs and taking quality notes. We will continue working on writing and grammar skills with our students by practicing pronouns, proverbs and MORE!! We continue to focus on the R.A.C.E writing model and the importance of developing strong writing skills. We would like to send out a HUGE shout out to all of our families for their continued support! Love, The 5th Grade Team |

Notes from the Nurse
A note from Nurse Janice!
As we begin a new school year, please see below for health information from your school nurse.
The health of your child matters!
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR STUDENT HOME FROM SCHOOL:
- When your child is so ill, they will not be able to engage and learn while at school.
- A temperature of 100.4 or higher. Students with a temperature of 100.4 or higher should stay home until they have gone at least 24 hours fever free without the aid of fever-reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.)
- Vomiting. Students who have vomited should stay home until they have gone 24 hours without vomiting without the aid of medication.
COVID
- If your child tests positive for COVID, or if any member of your immediate household tests positive for COVID, please reach out to your school nurse.
- If your child is exposed to someone who is positive for COVID outside your immediate household, please reach out to your school nurse.
Your school nurse will guide you through the current guidance and expectations (Phone:719-382-1370)
HEALTH OFFICE VISITS/BLUE NOTES
- Students occasionally visit the health office for minor complaints and injuries. For these non-emergent health office visits, you will receive an automated dialer from the district (after school hours) notifying you that your child was seen in the health office. Your child should also bring home a health office 'blue note' from the school that shares some details of the health office visit.
- Parents will be contacted by the school nurse for any health office visit which would require the child to be picked up early from school, for any visits that require follow up medical care outside the school setting, or for any injuries that might require follow up by the parent once the child gets home from school.
