a note from your director

Week one is done! What a great first week into the spring semester. Let’s start by passing out some accolades and compliments!

We want to congratulate our Area students for their incredible performances this weekend at Westlake High School! This was the final round of auditions as these students were attempting to earn a chair in the Texas All-State Band! Congratulations to Ethan D’Amura, Andrea Rey, Chloe Powell, Dorian Del Castillo, Cameron Allen, Antonio Musgrove, Parker Taylor and Travis Miller. They were incredible representatives of the Jaguar Band! We want to give a special shout-out to Antonio Musgrove, Travis Miller and Cameron Allen for their performance earning them the position of first alternate to the All-State Band! This is a huge accomplishment, and we are super proud of them! Finally, we want to recognize Parker Taylor for earning a chair in the Texas All-State Band!! This is Parker's second time to earn a chair in the Texas All-State Band, and we could not be prouder! Each of these students deserves as much praise as we can provide! We are so proud of your accomplishments through this process!

This week we continue our preparations for UIL Solo & Ensemble! Please help support your student as ALL Wind Ensemble students are required to participate in UIL Solo and Ensemble. ALL Wind Symphony students are required to play a Solo either for UIL or for a Johnson Director. ALL Symphonic Winds students are encouraged to perform a solo. This is an individual musician event and the time and effort our students put into performing a solo will not only benefit them as a player but also benefit our entire band program! For the students performing at UIL Solo & Ensemble, we will start piano accompaniments soon! Mr. Malik will be publishing the rehearsal schedule at the beginning of this week!

Speaking of students benefiting and becoming better musicians! We want to encourage all of our students to enroll in Private Lessons! Nothing beats the opportunity to study one-on-one with a professional of your specific instrument and to provide in-depth guidance and instruction based upon each student's individual needs! We will be sending out information soon as well as updating the band's webpage to provide more information about our Private Lesson Staff and how to enroll in Private Lessons! Let’s get everyone in lessons; this will absolutely help our band improve!!

Our Winter Guards are continuing to work and prepare for their competitive season! This past week they had a special guest come to Buda and work with them! Mr. Michael Rosales, one of the top choreographers in the country, was here providing input to help our group!! We are extremely excited to have him as part of our team and welcome his input!

Let’s have another great week this week as we continue to prepare for Solo & Ensemble, UIL Concert and Sightreading and our Winter Guard season! As always: “It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!!!”
