Blue Hills Regional Technical School

January 2019

The Principal’s post is published monthly. Please take a few minutes to read it. There are wonderful things happening at Blue Hills each week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my office at 781-828-5800 extension 261 and make an appointment to see me with Ms. Fama or email me at Jill Rossetti. Working together everyone can achieve more.

To see progress with our Massachusetts School Building Authority's project checkout school renovation for information. The five lower-level vocational programs are starting to see the rewards of the renovation. The boys and girls locker room by the gymnasium are now open. There are new window walls in the cafeteria. We have a new science lab, a new classroom, and our Computer Information Systems & Networking program has moved into their new space. Also, our vocational office is almost finished and 207A is also completed!

Criminal Justice Program Climbs High!

The 12th grade criminal justice recently visited the Norfolk County Sheriff's "Youth Leadership Academy" high ropes course. Students participated in team building and problem solving activities. The students really get a chance to step outside their comfort zone with support from their fellow peers to solve problems. Special thanks to Norfolk Sheriff's Department Jim Ross (Community Outreach Officer), for setting this up each year, and Matt Lowe and Tony McGaughey for being great instructors for our classes. Did you Know?

Electricians install, repair and maintain electrical power, lighting, communications and control systems in homes and businesses. They work indoors and outdoors and most electricians learn through an apprenticeship or by attending a technical school like Blue Hills to earn credit towards their apprenticeship.

At Blue Hills, students learn to read blueprints, learn electrical code requirements, safety, soldering, electrical theory, and hands-on, real-world wiring projects.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the 2017 median pay was $26.01 per hour or $54,110 per year.

Stay Tuned for a Taste of Blue Hills

Our Culinary students and DVC students are working on a local cooking show. They filmed this week and were exposed to real-world experiences working in their industries. Culinary students planned the menu, practiced and will star in the show filmed and edited by our DVC students. Shows will be available via a link from our web-page to a BHR YouTube channel. Some of the shows will be taped right in our culinary classroom. The first episode features Superbowl recipes. We can't wait to see it and then share it with all of our community. Warriors Swim Team

Our swim team rocks! They had all their meets away due to the renovation. Wednesday night they defeated Lynn Tech, capturing their 3rd victory of the season. Mr. Catabia said, "This team deserves a lot of credit for tenacity." Great job to the swim team, Coach Palmer and Coach Egan.
