School Counselor of the Year 2016

National School Counselor of the Year Finalist - Durenda Johnson Ward

Durenda Johnson Ward was recently honored at the White House for being one of six finalist for National School Counselor of the Year 2016. During the week Durenda, Past President Cecil Coates, and Katie McMillan (Principal of Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School - Raleigh, NC) met with our Tom Tillis (NC Senator) to share information and ideas surrounding education and our profession. The recognition ceremony included a reception at the White House where school counselor (and representatives) were addressed by our very own First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. The weekend was concluded with a Gala at Union Station.
