CENTRAL SCOOP

A Newsletter for Central Elementary School Staff

For the Week of December 14 through December 20, 2014

Announcements

  1. Congratulations to Kim Laswell, winner of the baby picture contest!

  2. Our next staff meeting is on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 7:30 am in LGI Room. Kim Baver will be joining us to discuss the upcoming Readathon. We will also discuss professional development for the second semester.

  3. On Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 7:20 am in Annie Pagel's room, I would like to take a moment to pray for our students and their families as we prepare for Christmas Break as well as for those of us who are going through difficulties in our own lives. Anyone who would like to is invited to join me. Thank you.

  4. 3rd-5th Grade Teams - Winter ISTEP+ tutoring invitations will be mailed out to students this week. I will be contacting each team with specific questions before we mail this information out.

  5. Please feel free to wear jeans every day this week. Thank you for all that you do for our children and for each other!

  6. Teachers - For our half-day records day on Friday, December 19, 2014, you will need to be here from 8:20-12:00 noon. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

  7. Grades Finalized in PowerSchool: All grades should be final in PowerSchool by 4:00 pm on Friday, December 19th. Shonda will print report cards that day and have them in your mailbox to review by the end of the day on the 5th. Fixes and reprints will take place on Tuesday then cards will go home on Wednesday, 1/7. Important things to remember: A. These reminders are from Mary Jordan in regard to PowerSchool. B. Remember to Refresh your grade book often. Go to file>Refresh Class Info. C. Also, everyone should RECALCULATE FINAL SCORES>Tools>Recalculate Final Scores. These two processes should be performed as you are working in your grade book. If you have any questions, please let Shonda know. When you are finished with the grades in a class, please click the gray button that says Q2 in Progress in EACH class, this indicates to me that grades are final for that class and I can run a report telling me who might not be finished.

  8. 3rd-5th Grade Teachers - This year I would like you to take the following three weeks of Team Time to prepare students for the new ISTEP+ assessment. These weeks are February 9-13, February 16-20, and February 23-27. As a team, I need you to develop a preparation plan for these three weeks and email it to me by January 30, 2015. You may use the Team Time instructional assistants to help you.

  9. Last Friday's PCSC administrative visit was a huge success! Here at the comments that administrators made about what they observed: -Lots of Kagan/cooperative learning strategies being used -During transitions, students knew what to do; Transitions happened smoothly -The building looks and feels different then it did in the past -Technology-enhanced questions being practiced independently by students; Students working out solutions on paper -Hard to find a child not engaged; Many examples of children sharing with children and children moving around -I attempted to prompt administrators to give me any ideas/suggestions for improvement. The only one given after several minutes of waiting was that I need to work on my ugly sweater choice. Thank you to Katy Riester, Lexi Aldridge, Megan Johnson, and Jennie Menser for their willingness to be observed! Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work in getting everything ready for this visit!

  10. Remember - Pay day Fridays are Spirit Days for the rest of this school year for staff as our way to celebrate your work in earning an A rating during the 2014-2015 school year. Enjoy wearing jeans and your Plainfield gear!
