WOW!!
Semifinal Round vs Atchison
Can you say “Rollercoaster”, yes, we can. It was a wild and crazy ride throughout the entire game. The Cards started out quickly in the 1st inning with two runs, only to go out in the bottom of the inning and give Atchison a couple of runs on errors. But back came EHS with two more runs in the 2nd inning. Things seemed to be on cruise control after the Cards scored 5 in the 4th to go up 9-2. All of a sudden the car was off the tracks and Atchison scored 6 runs to bring to a 1 run game at 9-8. Both teams went scoreless through the 5th and 6th innings. EHS put an insurance run on the board in the top of the 7th that made everyone involved feel much better. That’s where it ended with a 10-8 win.
Senior Sebastian Lewis started on the mound and carried the game into the 4th inning before being relieved. It wasn’t his best day, but he battled and kept the game under control as he had to pitch through four Cardinal errors. It was the 4th when sophomore Mason Cox came into the game to get out of the jam. Mason began to struggle in the 5th inning so junior Jaykob Lemonds came in to put down Atchison. Jaykob would close the game out and the Cards were off to the “ship”.
The hitting attack was led by senior Gavin Hobson and junior Trenton Long with two hits each. Seniors Keaton Herron, Sebastian Lewis, Dylan Meier, and junior Taggert Courter each added a hit. Sebastian knocked in three runs and Gavin had four RBI’s. Dylan coaxed two walks and crossed the plate three times. Every player in the lineup either had a hit, scored a run, or drove in a run. It was a total team effort. It wasn’t a perfect game by any means, but it was beautiful to see how the team all pulled together to move on to the championship game of the regional
Regional Championship vs Tonganoxie
The championship game got off to a quick start. Junior Bryce Clark singled up the middle to start the game. Gavin Hobson followed with a single in the hole. Sebastian Lewis singled up the middle to drive in Clark. In the bottom of the inning Tongie tied up the game, 1-1. In the top of the 3rd inning, Keaton Herron singled to start the action. Keaton advanced to second base on a balk and was driven in on a single by Trenton Long. The 4th inning started with Dylan Meier picking up an infield single, Taggert Courter then singled him to second base. Dylan scored when Bryce Clark singled. That was the end of the scoring but not the end of the excitement.
Pitching and catching were awesome as they held Tonganoxie to one run on one hit. Senior Will Schreiner called a great game behind the dish. Jaykob Lemond who had finished game one kept on rolling into game two. He started a little shaky with a walk then a hit-by-pitch to the first two hitters. A stolen base and a sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-1 without the benefit of a Tongie hit. Jaykob would not allow a hit during his 4.2 innings. Trenton Long came on in the 5th inning to close the door. Over his 2.1 innings, Trenton allowed 1 hit but no runs to seal the Cardinal's ride to state.
The defense rose to the occasion which has not always been the case this season. With only one error and several highlight plays, like Keaton Herron chasing down a Texas Leaguer and Taggert Courter laying out to turn a base hit into an out, the pitchers had all the support they needed. The Cardinals to great pleasure in fulfilling a saying that was repeated several times leading into regional. “One of life's greatest pleasures is to do what no one thinks you can do”
See you in Salina!

Varsity Softball - Coach Finucane
Eudora Cardinals capture Regional Championship with wins over Tonganoxie and Ft. Scott in the Championship game.
We want to start this article by thanking the Lawrence High staff and administration for allowing Eudora to host our Regional at their field last Thursday afternoon/evening. It was a long afternoon for the Cardinals as they waited out a rain delay, but in the end that didn’t seem to bother them as they stayed focused and were able to play two great ball games to advance to the Class 4A High School State Softball Tournament.
The Cardinals were led in the first game against Tonganoxie by some perfect hitting by Harper Schreiner (Junior) and Jayla Pierce (Senior), who both went 4-4 in the game. Kenzie Yoder (Freshman) added two hits to help drive the offense. The Cardinals scored four runs in the first, thanks to a triple by Pierce knocking in Rylee Griffin (Freshman) and Elli Han (Sophomore) after Harper Schreiner stole home. Pierce later scored on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Kira Baker (Junior). EHS Added three more runs in the second, thanks to a double by Yoder, a double by Schreiner, and a single by Han, who eventually scored on a single by Pierce. Eudora added two more in the 4th, with another leadoff double by Yoder, and a second double by Harper Schreiner, who was knocked in by Rylee Griffin’s single in the inning.
Tonganoxie fought back by adding single runs in their 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. The Cardinals then secured the victory with four runs in the 6th inning to win the game 13-3. Elli Han started that inning with a base hit then scored on a double by Pierce, who eventually scored on a misplay after a walk to Kira Baker. Kourtney Balluch (Senior) enters the game to run for Baker and scores on a passed ball by the catcher. The game ended when Addison Woods (Sophomore) reached 2nd base, stole third then slid home after a passed ball. Kira Baker got the win for Eudora going all six innings allowing three runs on four hits and striking out nine. Eudora had 13 hits in the game.
Championship against Ft. Scott:
The ballgame was tight early until the Cardinals put up two runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back as they defeated Ft. Scott 11-1 in the Regional final.
Elli Han and Jayla Pierce led the Eudora hitting attack in this game with Han getting two hits and Pierce adding three hits. Pierce led off the second inning with a walk, moved to second on a bunt by Lilly Rife (Freshman) who made it safely to first. Both runners advanced a base on a ground ball by Taylor Hadl (Junior), then Addison Woods singled to left field driving in Pierce and moving Rife to third, who scored shortly after that on a passed ball. Eudora added another run in the third on a double by Han, moving to third on a single by Jayla Pierce and then stealing home. Eudora would keep going and added three runs in the 4th inning on a hit by Lilly Rife stolen base, advance to third on a ground out by Woods. Kenzie Yoder walks, Harper Schreiner singles to keep the inning going, followed by a single from Rylee Griffin to center field driving in Yoder and Schreiner from first base.
Ft. Scott's single run came in the 5th inning. Eudora then came back in their 6th inning to notch five runs ending the game 11-1. Kenzie Yoder doubled to start the Eudora 6th, she eventually scores on a passed ball. Rylee Griffin walks, Elli Han singles to left field to advance Griffin to second. Parker Long (Freshman), enters the game to run for Griffin. Elli Han steals second, Long steals third. Parker long scores on a base hit by Jayla Pierce advancing Han to third base. Pitcher Kira Baker doubles to center field scoring Han and Pierce. Kourtney Balluch comes in the run for Baker. Lilly Rife and Tayler Hadl walk advancing Balluch to third. Addison Woods hit in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly ball to center field driving in Kourtney Balluch for the win.
The Eudora defense was also standout in this game with two defensive infield plays by Kenzie Yoder at third base and Harper Schreiner, shortstop, who stopped a ground ball rocket and made the play on a ball hit up the middle, along with a fantastic diving catch in right field by Addison Woods to end the Ft. Scott 4th inning. Kira Baker got the win pitching all 6 innings allowed one run on one hit, striking out 10, and walking zero. Eudora had 11 hits in the game.
Cardinals win 11-1, and head to state!! EHS will play Thursday, May 27th in Salina, 7:00pm vs Andale/Garden Plain

Golf - Coach DeVoe
The JV tournament at Lamont Hill Golf Course was a 9 hole two-man scramble. Simeon Chrislip and Sean Moffitt led the way for the Cardinals, Will Gabel and Jonah Pratt were one stroke behind them, with Ayden Ramirez and Derek Lehmann finishing a close third for the team.
The next JV tournament was a 9 hole individual event at Paola Country Club and the first stroke plan tournament for Jonah Pratt and Ayden Ramirez. Randy Guthrie, Steven Brown and Simeon Chrislip were the experienced golfers to round out this group. Steven Brown led the way for the Cardinals and finished his season with three tournaments as he and the rest of the team head into next year as the senior Cardinal golfers.
The Varsity team finished the regular season with a tournament at Deer Trace Golf Course which presented quite the challenge for the Cardinal golfers. Garrett Stephenson finished tied for 32nd place to lead the Varsity team and followed by Derek Lehmann, Ben Thorne, Brenten Ormsby, Will Gabel, and Justin Fawcett. The Regional tournament was back at Wamego Country Club and presented a longer challenge than the regular season. Brenten Ormsby led the Cardinals in 43rd place with a round of 120. He was followed by Derek Lehmann, Garrett Stephenson, Ben Thorne, and Will Gabel.
The Cardinal Golf Program had a big learning curve in its first year and the student golfers will only get better and build a stronger season next year after the challenges presented in 2020-2021. We look forward to seeing anybody who can make it to the Golf Fundraiser on Saturday, June 12th, at Twin Oaks Golf Complex, and it will be a 4-person scramble with prizes and loads of fun to be had by all!
Varsity Girls Soccer - Coach Erpelding
Regional Semi-Finals vs Atchison
Senior Harleigh Moore got us on the board early in the game. Freshman Jayla Erpelding played a great corner in and Harleigh was there to put away her first career goal!! The second came from a PK. Jayla played in a corner and Atchison had a handball in the box. Senior Kate Erpelding calmly put the pk away. Goal number three came when senior Alex Pasqua switched a great ball to Jayla. Jayla took down the pass and cracked one that beat the keeper high. Goal number four came when Alex dribbled through the middle and found Jayla. Jayla took two dribbles and beat the keeper near post. Kate scored number five when senior Grace Schieferecke took a shot and they miss played it and created a loose ball. Kate pounced on it and put it away. Kate got number six to complete her hat trick on another loose ball in the box.
I challenged the defense to not allow more than three shots, well they did better than that, they didn't allow Atchison any shots. The only save that had to happen was freshman Lainey Orr making the save on a deflection by freshman Lauren Grauberger. Our defense of Lauren, junior Mallory Vickers, Harleigh, freshman Harper Andrews, freshman Kyleigh Musick, senior Rachel Pratt, sophomore Liz Mueting, freshman Madison Woodruff and senior goalie Leah Wiliams and Lainey in goal was really really good. 6-0 EHS wins and advances
Regional Championship @Louisburg
This may be one of the hardest posts I've ever had to do. The girls played their hearts out and to lose 1-2 in double OT with 12 seconds left, it was absolutely heartbreaking. Neither team deserved to lose the game but someone had to and unfortunately it was us. We were on our heels in the first half and they came right at us. We were pretty lucky not to be down 2-0. Leah came up huge three or four times and they missed an open net. At halftime, we talked about playing loose and having fun and where we needed to attack. We played much much better in the second half. They got the first goal with about 17 minutes left in the game. A ball was played through and Leah came out to get it. While sliding in, Leah spilled it and swears she had her hand on the ball and they kicked it out. It was hard to tell from my angle and on film. But I believe Leah. After the goal, we really started to create some chances. We tied it up when Harleigh found Kate. Kate turned and took to dribbles and hit a shot from about 30 out into the far right corner of the goal. Fantastic goal and by far the best celebration we had all year. I was sure if Kate and Alex were ever gonna stop hugging. With 12 seconds left in the second overtime, they got the game-winner on a cross and finish. At this moment it felt like someone ripped out our hearts and showed it to us. One of the toughest losses in my 18 years of doing this.
I can't say enough and I can't express how proud I am of this team, these girls, and especially the seniors. So many first this year! Broke our wins record, got to double-digit wins, scored 42 goals which are the most, 31 assists which is the most, gave up 35 goals which are the fewest, won our first playoff game and we were a hair away from a regional title. We did this in the third year of our program and we missed a season. These seniors have set the standard of what the expectations are going forward. Not only on the field but off the field. We have 7 fantastic human beings that represented us so amazingly well. I have no doubt that all of these seniors are going to go on and do great things with their lives! We can't thank them enough!
