Mission Statement
Arizona Virtual Academy is a public online charter school that uses K12, Inc. programs and curricula to meet the needs of diverse student populations through innovative uses of technology, effective teachers and instruction, and partnerships with families and community. AZVA empowers students to think critically and achieve academic success and personal growth. AZVA is devoted to making quality public education accessible for all Arizona students- regardless of geographic, financial, or demographic circumstance – and to provide online education alternatives that are as unique as the students we serve.
What are the goals of ALP?
¨ Provide enrichment opportunities to identified students
¨ Encourage students to challenge themselves in an area of interest
¨ Provide enrichment classes to qualified students
What's Happening This Month in ALP?
AZVA Student Choice Class Options
Students have the choice of several different topics within the class options. K-2 may choose from 2 topics from the IND STEM category listed for their grade levels each quarter. Grades 3 -8 may choose more than one type of class and/or class topics per quarter.
Please note: ALP classes do not replace OLS courses and plans

Choice 1:
Learn About Amazing Animals
The students will learn about an ocean animal that moves in a special way. They will then create their own ocean animal that also moves in a special way, using their science and math skills
Choice 2:
Coding
The students will learn about programming and create their own designs and games built from programming code. They will use science and math skills.

Option 2: Independent Stem Projects 3-8
Fresh Food
The students will learn to facilitate planning and practice the organizational skills for a community garden. They will
Create plans for a community garden in their area. They will use science and math skills to determine the soil profiles and what can grow in that soil.
Choice 2:
Code.org and Scratch
The students will learn about programming and create their own designs and games built from programming code. They will use science and math skills.
Choice 3:
Pixton
The student will learn about digital storytelling using a comic book style program (Pixton) and create a story to illustrate a concept from the OLS.

Option 3: Small Group STEM Project
Mission: Fresh Food
The students will learn to facilitate planning and practice the organizational skills for a community garden. They will create plans for a community garden in their area. They will use science and math skills to determine the soil profiles and what can grow in that soil.
These classes are separated into 2 groups, Grades 3 - 6, and 7-8.
