Notes From the Office
CGSF Popcorn Days: We are gearing up for another successful fundraising year with Popcorn Fri-yays. Popcorn is $2.00, and we aim to have popcorn delivered to classrooms before 10:30 am on Friday. Last year popcorn days provided approximately $7 000 to our Fundraising Association. As our student population continues to grow, we know the support is needed more now than ever. We are working with our Hot Lunch ordering platform to hopefully have popcorn orders streamlined through that, for families who wish to do so. If you have any questions: please email Barb (cgsfundraising@gmail.com).
Hot Lunches: Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month to order for the following month. Please note that there is no hot lunch ordering for ECDP or Kindergarten students. To open your 2023/24 hot lunch account (the system does not retain information from the previous year), follow the detailed instructions provided in the attached graphic (Digital Take Home Folder). When you log in, you may notice a new button to volunteer for hot lunch. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize hot lunches from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. If you have any questions you can contact our hot lunch team at: cgshotlunch@outlook.com.
Clothing Swap: Christina Gordon is having our very first Winter Clothing Swap! It will take place in the school gymnasium on Saturday, October 14th from 10:00-11:00 am. Families can bring in clean, washed, clothing that no longer fits their student and swap it for something that will fit them for the winter ahead! We will be swapping all sizes of the following categories of clothing:
- Jackets and Coats
Snowpants
Snowsuits
Boots
Sweaters
Pants
On the day of the swap, everyone will first help organize the clothing they have brought in by clothing type and size. Once it is all organized, the shopping can begin! Find something “new to you!” If there are items left over at the end of the swap, people will have a chance to reclaim clothing that they brought in. They may wish to sell it themselves online or at a garage sale, or save it for younger family members etc. The rest of the clothing that is unclaimed will be donated. This clothing exchange is one way to help out the environment. The clothing industry contributes almost 8% of global carbon emissions with the production and transportation of new clothing. Our clothing swap will teach students about consuming less, re-using what we already have, and coming together as a community to share with one another!
Inclusion Fair: The Inclusion Advisory Committee will be hosting their annual Inclusion Fair on Saturday, October 28th from 11:00-1:00 pm. Come learn all about the services that RMWB has to offer! See the attached poster (Digital Take Home Folder) for more information.
School Council: The next School Council Meeting will be October 17th at 6:30 pm. They are still looking to fill several positions and would also like to add to their Members at Large. Please reach out to Mr. Thorne (richard.thorne@fmpsd.ab.ca) if you are interested in filling any of these positions.
Scholastic Book Club: October Scholastic Book Flyers will be going home this week. With the calendar promising thrills and chills ahead, Scholastic Book Clubs continues to put can’t-miss books at can’t-miss prices into students’ hands and help them discover the pure joy of reading.
Every time families place an order, they earn rewards for their student's classroom that can be redeemed for expertly curated titles and more awesome classroom resources. Ordering deadline for October will be Monday, October 23rd.
Circle of Security: There is a new session of Circle Of Security starting next week. There are eight weekly sessions that run from 9:00-11:00 am. The sessions are at Thickwood Heights Public School, however any parent of a student in FMPSD is welcome to attend. The facilitators are Tracy Wlash and Kellie O'Leary. Parents can register with the information on the attachment (Digital Take Home Folder). The following video explains more about the Circle Of Security program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wpz8m0BFM8&t=1s.
