Safety When Dropping Off Students
When dropping students off in the morning please DO NOT pull into the opposing lane of traffic to let students out curbside. This is a huge safety issue for our students as well as a moving violation. Chico Police Department has been notified and they will be stepping up patrols before and after school. Please share and pass along this very important message.
Dear CUSD Families,
Chico Unified School District takes students and staff safety extremely seriously. The recent events in neighboring Tehama County reinforce the need for our school administrators and staff to continue their vigilance in monitoring our school campuses.
Thanks to the support of our community, CUSD recently passed Measure K. Funds from Measure K have been used to increase security at our campuses, including security fencing, single points of entry, and security cameras. In addition, each school develops a Safe School Plan every year.
District and site leadership teams work with school site staff to ensure that the staff knows how to respond in a variety of situations, ranging from severe weather to an intruder on campus. To this end, CUSD schools have been holding Code Red Drills to reinforce with students and staff how to respond in case of an emergency. Further, students and staff are encouraged to immediately report any suspicious activities or behaviors that cause unease.
We encourage families to check Twitter (@Chico_Unified) and our website (www.chicousd.org) as we update information, including school safety messages, on a regular basis.
It is our desire that through the work we do on a daily basis, Chico Unified can play a part in ending senseless violence in our communities. This includes the work being done to improve our school facilities as well as our focus on the social, emotional, and academic development of our students.
CUSD offers both heartfelt condolences and any support we can provide to all those impacted by the events in Rancho Tehama today.

CITRUS BOBCATS – PARENTS, FAMILIES & FRIENDS
We have been receiving many requests to have messages passed along to students at the end of the day for things like ride plans, pickups, early dismissal requests, changes in plans, etc. Sending this volume of messages down to the classrooms at the end of the day is disruptive to the class. From this point forward, notes are required for change of plans, pickups, etc.
Messages will no longer be passed to the classrooms.
Please make arrangements with your student BEFORE SCHOOL regarding dismissal plans.
Also, exceptions will not be made to release students via phone calls. Only persons that are on the Students Emergency Contact Card will be allowed to sign students out at the front desk or health office.

Important Library Info
As we approach the beginning of a brand new school year please take a moment to review this important information regarding our Citrus Library.
Dear Citrus Parent,
Please urge your children to practice reading every day, as reading ability is key to success in school and in life. You can help by reading with your kids each day at home.
To encourage reading success, every Citrus class visits the library each week. You are responsible for your student’s library use. Parents will be expected to pay the replacement price for any lost or damaged books. Avoid this by helping your child find a safe place to keep library books, away from siblings, pets, food and liquids. A backpack is usually the best spot, as long as there are no leaky water bottles inside!
If your child still owes Citrus a book from last year, he or she will not be permitted to borrow this year until the overdue book is returned or paid for. Please help your child meet this responsibility so they have access to borrowing books they can get excited about reading.
Questions about your child’s borrower account at the Citrus Library? Email our Library clerk, Mrs. Gray, at email@example.com.

Just order a new book from our Amazon wish list, and your child’s name and why they’re being honored will inscribed inside for the whole school to appreciate.
Our Amazon wish list is called Citrus School Library. Order any book from the list and have it sent to: Citrus School Library, 1350 Citrus Ave., Chico CA 95926. Send a note to our librarian Mrs. Gray (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your child’s name and why they are being honored, to let us know the book is coming.
