Nuts and Bolts
Friday, March 10th is the last day of the grading period. Grades must be posted by Thursday 3/16/17 morning at 8:00 AM so we can print and have them in your hands by noon for review. The window closes at 3:00 on Thursday 3/16. Report cards will be sent home on Friday 3/17/17.
March 10th Air Bears convocation @ 9:15. We will start calling classrooms down at 9:00. The assembly will be about 30 min. long. Fifth grade teachers may go on prep at 9:35 and then 5th grade students will stay with their RA teacher after the assembly. There will be no AM intervention groups this morning.
Last call for field trip forms. These are all due immediately so we can submit to transportation and receive approval before Spring Break.
Tuesday's PD time (7:45-8:30) will be The Contest. ALL staff are invited (encouraged) to attend and enjoy the fun!

Ways to Respond to Independent Reading, Read with A Buddy, or Read Aloud Time~
1.) Lost Punctuation: Make a copy of a page of your book but leave out all of the capitalization and punctuation. Exchange papers with a class member and fill in what’s missing.
2.) Fan Letter: Write a letter to the author of your book explaining what you like about it. In your letter, show off how well you know the book.
Beam Reading: Use a flashlight or penlight to track words as the student reads.
Reaching ALL Learners
Building a deep understanding of knowledge connects students’ learning to authentic contexts and empowers them to build meaning independently, increasing their sense of control and decreasing stress.
Engage OPB (other people’s brains). Teach students to use “OPB” or outside sources, to check for accuracy and correct errors. Students can practice this process by conducting online fact searches, getting classmates to review and provide feedback on their work, and consulting relevant texts. Encourage students to make these accuracy checks a habit and ingrain them as an integral step of their work process.
