Please see the change in bell schedule below. Our day and master schedule will be adjusted and times will be shifted 15 minutes earlier. Please see our adjusted schedule below.

Submitting Your Child’s Completed Vaccination Card

If your child has received both doses of the vaccine, we ask that you please submit a copy of it to your school nurse, Menka San Pietro, sanpietm@ccsd15.net. Fully vaccinated individuals are not identified as close contacts, and therefore, not excluded from school if there is a positive COVID case (as long as they remain asymptomatic). This documentation is very important during our contact tracing efforts. Families will continue to be notified if a student is identified as a close contact so they are aware to monitor for potential symptoms.

REMINDER: PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!

Cold Weather is nearing. Please send students to school dressed for the weather. Students must have on winter boots and snow pants to play in the snow at recess time. With the chilly temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate winter clothing (Hats, Gloves, Scarves, Winter Coat, Snow Pants, Snow Boots). Please contact the office if you need assistance providing the appropriate winter clothing for your child.

As the weather begins to become colder, we are writing to share District 15’s 2021-22 inclement weather plan with you. After much discussion, in the event we have significant inclement weather creating unsafe travel conditions or due to extreme cold, we will be utilizing an emergency weather day(s) which we have already built into the school calendar instead of shifting to virtual learning. Please visit the Emergency School Closure/Inclement Weather page of our website.

Should we need to call an emergency/inclement weather day due to hazardous weather conditions, we will notify families through email, text message, and phone calls via our Blackboard Communication system. The information will also be posted on our District and school websites, Facebook, Twitter, as well as the CCSD15 mobile app.

Please be aware that if District 15 is closed for in-person learning due to inclement weather, unfortunately, we will not be offering meal deliveries.

Communication and Notification
In order to ensure you receive timely notification of school closures and other school and District communication, we ask that you please ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information in Infinite Campus (email address, phone number, and cell phone number for text messages). To review the contact information we have within our system, please take a moment to log into Infinite Campus to check for accuracy. If you need assistance logging into your Infinite Campus, please reach out to your school.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we prepare for potential weather-related closures. Again, more information about our winter weather protocols is available to view on our Emergency School Closings webpage.

Student Mental Health Support Days

In August of 2021, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new state law that allows students aged 6 to 17 to take up to five days off school for mental or behavioral health reasons. These days do not require a doctor’s note and students may begin using these days starting in January 2022.

The intent of this law is to help parents support children that are experiencing difficulty coping with the increased stress in their lives. If you would like your child to use a mental health support day, follow the same process you use to report any student absence – contact your school’s attendance line and indicate that the student will be using a mental health support day. Mental health support days are counted as excused absences.

Schools are required to contact parents if a student takes two or more mental health support days during the school year. This contact is to conduct a student emotional wellness check and helps the school determine if the student requires mental health support at school.

If you have any questions, please contact your school’s office.

Thank you,

Thomas Edgar, Ph.D.
Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services

Moving 15 Forward Community Information Sessions

The next steps of Moving 15 Forward include sharing the proposal and seeking feedback from as many stakeholders as possible. Board President Scuzupaj and Superintendent Dr. Heinz, along with members of the District’s administrative team, will bring this plan to both the school community as well as the broader community at various information session meetings.

Presentations will provide a broad overview of our holistic plan with a particular focus on why District 15 believes this comprehensive plan will Move 15 Forward and provide all students with enhanced and equitable educational opportunities and the chance to learn at near-neighborhood schools. Below is a proposed meeting schedule. Additional information including the meeting location at each school will be shared by each principal as their school’s meeting approaches.

Transportation Update

As previously reported to the Board of Education, District 15 has been facing significant challenges to its Transportation program since the start of the current school year. The Transportation Department has worked diligently to expedite its pick up and drop off routines, while also hiring and training more drivers to help successfully transport over 10,000 students on 602 routes using 127 District 15 buses. Despite stepped up efforts including job fairs, the recruitment of new drivers, and a new attendance incentive for drivers, the District continues to experience a bus driver shortage as 2021 draws to a close.

After careful consideration, as well as, a lot of creativity and hard work to combat a nationwide shortage of drivers, the administration believes it is necessary to move the District to a 3-Tier Transportation System beginning as early as February 2022. The Board asked many questions regarding how the 3-Tier system would work and the impact it may have on our families. Dr. Kowalcyzk and Mr. Bramley will work to solidify which schools will make up each tier, solidify start and end times, and prepare new bus stop and route schedules. Information will be shared before winter break begins. Please watch for more information to be shared via Blackboard and school newsletters.

D15 E-Flyers

District 15 is "green" in its approach to distributing community flyers. Rather than sending flyers home with each student via backpack mail, flyers are posted on the D15 E-Flyers page for parents to view or print 24/7.
