Principal's Corner - Student Wins Award
The Hero of Character Award
Each year The Character Council chooses 10 people for the Hero of Character award. All people from the tri-state area are eligible, which means they are choosing from millions of possible winners. So to be chosen is a really big honor.
The Character Council has chosen SLS eighth grader John Meer as a 2018 Hero of Character.
Here are some examples John's character and service:
John regularly volunteers in 1st grade reading books to students and helping them with math problems.
Last year John created and presented a lesson to this same 1st grade class on tools and their use.
Every day John is helping a staff member with some project: fixing a bookshelf, unpacking supplies, helping me prepare the cafeteria for a meeting, and the list just goes on and on.
This is what the Character Council had to say about John:
“These Heroes are just that – Heroes in our communities, which we lift up in recognition of their achievement of living good character everyday, and modeling it for the rest of us. Despite the burdens life hands John, he approaches each day with the mentality that he can make the world a better place.”
“John Meer’s nomination showed trustworthiness and dependability; responsibility; generosity of time, talent, and spirit; humility; and a willingness to help others that is truly inspiring.”
John, along with the other award winners, will be recognized at the “Hero of Character” Celebration Dinner on October 25, 2018 at the Lawrenceburg Event Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. I want to thank John for being such a good role model.
Mr. Chad Moeller

Festival Week Drop off/Pick up
Festival Week Drop off/Pick up
Members of the parish will be setting up tents for the parish festival. We will not be able to use the parking lot west of the school starting Tuesday, September 11th through Monday, September 17th.
Dropping your children off starting Tuesday, September 11th: Drop your children off on Walnut Street between St. Louis Place and Helene Street. Your children can then walk in front of the rectory, church, and church office, to the school. Please do not drop your children off directly in front of the school. We need to leave this space for bus drop off.
Pick up in the afternoon: Please use the parking lot across St. Louis Place from the church. If it is possible for your child to ride the bus or carpool you may want to consider this option. The fewer cars we have in the parking lot the safer it will be for our children. If the tents are down by Monday afternoon, September 17th, we may be able to use the parking lot west of the school. Please check this lot first on the 17th.

In the Way of St. Francis
When Mrs. Tammi Wintz, one of our cafeteria managers, found herself the foster parent of three tiny, adorable kittens that were abandoned at her home, she wasn’t sure what to do. She knew that they were too small and vulnerable to survive the heat of the day, so Mrs. Wintz brought her furry feline friends to St. Louis School where they were instantly loved and adopted... by the end of the day! St. Francis would be proud of the way that SLS cares for all of God’s creatures both great and small.

Do You Want To Become A Catholic?
R.C.I.A.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults—is a process for those adults interested in learning more about the Catholic faith in order to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process is for all men and women who are not baptized, or baptized in another Christian church but in need of further instruction and initiation, or those baptized in the Catholic Church but needing more instruction to complete the sacraments of Initiation.
SEVEN REASONS TO JOIN R.C.I.A. -- (Why seven? Seven is a Holy number in the Old Testament.)
1. You’re marrying a Catholic. (Sharing and practicing your faith together is a great foundation to a marriage.)
2. You’re already married to a Catholic and your kids are being raised Catholic. (It’s natural to want to share in the sacramental experience of your loved ones.)
3. Your children are being raised Catholic and you just want to learn more about the tradition without actually becoming Catholic. (Please join us but you might be surprised what happens!)
4. You’ve lived in a “Catholic World” all your life. (This program is for people of all ages. Every year someone joins us whom everyone in the Parish assumed was already Catholic!)
5. You don’t know much about Catholicism but you have a friend or neighbor who has inspired you to learn more. (Actions speak louder than words.)
6. You’ve suffered through a personal loss and are seeking to improve your faith. (“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”)
7. You don’t know why, you just feel something calling you to the Church. (It’s the Holy Spirit...listen to it.)
For more information, call 934-2603. Classes start September 23rd!
