SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME . . . ACCOUNTABLE TALK
In our classrooms we work hard to be deliberate with the language we use and the types
of conversations we want to hear children having between each other. Our students may
know the right or wrong answers to questions but can often struggle with how to talk to
other students about their thinking and their ideas. Below are some prompts we use to assist students to be able to do this successfully.
What I heard you say . . .
I agree because . . / I disagree because . . .
Could you explain that to me another way . . .
How did you get your answer?
How do you know that your answer is correct?
I have a question about . . .
I don’t understand . . .
I did it this way . . .
Can you tell me more about . . .
I noticed you . . .
It’s ok—take your time . . .
Have a go at home using some of these prompts and let us know how you get on!
THANK YOU THANK YOU
June & Colin Lees who have donated some plants to fill the gaps in our school gardens.

PTA AGM
PAID UNION MEETINGS
On Tuesday 26th June our school will be open, but not for instruction from 1.30 - 3.00 on this day. If you are able to collect your children at 1.30pm that would be really appreciated. If you are unable to collect your children at 1.30pm could you please e.mail office@toko.school.nz
The purpose of these meetings is to discuss progress on the campaign for the Ministry of Education and the Government to urgently deliver more resources and staffing so schools can better support students, and for greater recognition for teachers in New Zealand so that the growing teacher shortage is addressed before it impacts further.
We are calling on the Government to do what's right so students can continue to access quality public education in this country.
We are happy to answer any questions you have and to discuss how you can show your support for our teachers and the need for action to address the current issues to help us as a school to continue to deliver the best education for your children.
LIBRARY NEWS
The library website is now up and running again. It is accessible through the school website.
Students have been given their borrower number and password details by their teacher. They will need this to be able to access the site as someone other than a guest. This will enable them to view their borrowing, when books that are on loan are due back, and any overdues that they may have. Other features are also available within the site so I encourage you to visit with your children and view what is available.
The library catalogue is available to everyone as a guest.
The main page shows new titles that are available and a summary of these. These are on display in the library also. Featured books are ‘Top Picks’ and are at the top of the page.
Book trailers will also be available at different times.
News from the library will also be featured here.
We are currently working on adding many more features that will enhance your child’s learning and interests.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
Kahouri Road Bridge Closure
We have been advised by Tranzit that there will be no delays with the morning pickups but there will be an approximate 10 minute delay with the afternoon pickups. These times may alter a wee bit, as the bus company cannot control weather and increased traffic on the detour roads. It is likely that the buses will not be arriving at Toko School until at least 3.55. This now means that staff will have to be on duty for an hour after school. This is quite problematic because staff have many school related tasks and meetings that they attend to in the afternoons. Are there any parents or people in the community that may be willing to assist with supervising children on one or more days, whilst we have this bridge closure? if you are interested in helping out please give us a call.
