Greetings,
Yesterday was Lunar New Year. It’s the beginning of the new year in the lunar calendar and it marks the beginning of spring and the end of winter. This may be wishful thinking in Minnesota. Today is Groundhog Day, and with it, another wish and hope for spring. Let’s hope there are only six more weeks of winter.
Here are a few updates for this week:
- 2022 Minnesota Student Survey: Spring Lake Park is asking students in grades 5, 8, 9 and 11 to participate in the 2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). The MSS is conducted in schools across our state every three years. Questions on the survey are about many topics relating to young people’s lives. The survey asks about how well school is going, future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, and more. If you are the parent of a fifth grader, you will receive additional information on the MSS next week from your learning advocate. The learning advocate will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
- Planning for 2022—2023: At the halfway point in the school year, we are thinking about and planning for next year. In case you missed it, see a roundup of planned enrollment, grade-level transition and registration events. If you’d like to, but are unable to participate in a scheduled event, we have staff always happy to answer questions and make connections. Feel free to share these with friends and neighbors.
- February Communication: By the end of February, learning advocates will be reaching out to share your child’s learning progress with you. Watch for details from each learning advocate. This is a great time to get an update on how things are going and to get a peek at the learning that lies ahead.
- Attendance: Please remember attendance is taken and recorded at the end of each day based on student attendance and engagement in the "live" sessions for the day. Additionally, students must submit work each day that shows evidence of their engagement in the asynchronous (on demand) learning experiences. If your child is absent due to illness, please be sure to call our attendance line to report this information. Attendance line: 763-600-5209
I hope your February is off to a good start. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at 763-600-5057 or kfehri@district16.org. I am here to assist.
Take care!
