June Edition
Important Information
Students will receive a Summer Packet the last week of school. ALL students must complete the packet and turn it in on the 1st day of the 2022-2023 school year. The packets will also be available on the CAP Website in case it is misplaced over the summer.
Kindergarten, 4th and 8th grade will be returning their school issued Chromebooks and chargers on Friday, June 3rd. If your child will not be in school on this day, for any reason, please have them turn in their device and charger to their homeroom teacher prior to that date. If you have any outstanding fees or known damage, please pay the designated fee, at the school store, prior to June 3rd to ensure your student gets a new device in the upcoming school year.
CAP is hosting a FREE COED basketball camp this summer for students entering 6th-12th grade. See the flyer below for details and feel free to contact our Athletic Director Mr. Barnshaw (jbarnshaw@communityacademy.org) if you have any questions.
- Absent Notes: It's the law; when your child is absent from school, please remember to send in a note. For convenience, you may also simply send an email to absent@communityacademy.org.
- On June 19th we honor and celebrate Juneteenth. "Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African American people in the United States." Though school is not in session on this date we highly encourage parents/guardians to celebrate this important day in history by visiting the National Museum of African American History & Culture website for some virtual resources.
School Store Summer Hours
The School Store will be closed June 13th-17th and July 25th-29th.
June 20th through July 22nd:
7:30 am - 8 am, Students only
Parents are encouraged to order online.
All online orders can be picked up Thursdays only, between 8 am-12 noon.
August 1-31st 7:30am -12pm. Open to students and parents.

Concilio's Annual Hispanic Fiesta:

Hispanic Fiesta takes place annually as a part of the PECO Multicultural Series, full of culture – a true #LatinoWeekendExperience! Hispanic Fiesta will be Saturday, July 9th, and Sunday, July 10th, from 2:00 pm till 8:00pm on both days RAIN OR SHINE! This event features entertainment and will include many local vendors offering you the Latino flair in foods, music, clothing, and much more.

Dean's Den
- 8th Grade students must wear their full uniform, including their sweater or blazer, to the promotion ceremony in order to participate in the ceremony.
- Students MUST BE in full uniform everyday up to and including June 10th.
- If you would like to donate any gently used uniform items please have your student bring them to the Behavior Support Suite by Friday, June 10th.
- If you need to order special sizes from Cramer's please place your orders by July to ensure you receive the uniform items prior to the 1st Day of School. Order online NOW at: www.CramersUniforms.Com
Transportation:
The Department of Transportation Services will continue the Flat Rate Program for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. The program is for families of students who are eligible for District-provided transportation by school bus, van, or cab, but prefer to drive their children to and from school for a monthly flat rate payment of $300 per household. Families also have the option to opt out of bus, van, or cab service in the morning only and will receive a monthly flat rate payment of $150 per household. The students of families that choose the morning (AM-only option), will be able to use bus, van, or cab service in the afternoon. Students must live more than 1.5 miles from CAP and be in grades 1-6 for the upcoming school year. The school district will use the address that we have on file at CAP, so please make sure that address is accurate.
Parents/guardians are required to apply through the following link in order to participate in the program: www.philasd.org/transportation/parent-flat-rate/. Click Enrollment Form “22-23. There will ONLY be two enrollment periods. The first one will be open from May 16th to Wednesday, June 15. The second enrollment period will be open from Thursday, September 1, through Friday, September 30. It is our understanding that if you do not enroll during one of these times, you will NOT be able to enroll at all next year.

Counseling Corner
- Go outside! Get some fresh air and enjoy the summer weather. Go on a walk, go to the shore, check out a new park.
- Attend community events. There are a lot of fun free summer activities in Philadelphia this summer. Check out visitphilly.com and the "uwishunu" section to find all the events going on in your neighborhood this summer!
- Try outdoor meditation or Yoga. Go to a park or quiet shaded space and find a video on youtube.
- Make a summer feel good playlist. Make a list of songs that put you in a good mood.
- Spend time with family. Spending quality time with family can be extra fun in the summer doing all the activities above.
Take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the summer months with family and friends!

Summer reminders for the 2022-23 school year.
Physical Examination:
Students in entering grades Kindergarten, 1st grade, 6th grade and 11th grade are required to provide the health office with a physical examination for the 2022-23 School Year.
Dental Examination
Students entering grades Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade and 7th grade are required to provide the health office with a dental examination for the 2022-23 School Year.
Immunizations
Please submit all updated vaccine records including Covid-19 vaccine cards to the school health office. Students in grades Kindergarten, 6th-7th grade and 12th grade require vaccinations. Please consult your pediatrician to ensure your child(ren) are up to date with the required vaccinations.
Medications
If your child has medication in school a parent must pick the medication up during the last week of school. No medications, except inhalers, will be given to students to transport home. Any medications not picked up by the last day of the school, will be discarded. Should your child require medication at school during the 2022-23 school year, a new prescription and medication order form from your child's physician is needed. Please provide this at the beginning of each school year.
