Room 11 on the Move

Spring has sprung

I hope that all of you and your students enjoyed the gorgeous weather and beautiful blossoms this week. Though I am sad to see Spring Break go, I look forward to seeing your kids back in class this week. We'll have a busy time ahead of us as we prepare for Oklahoma's state tests, which are scheduled for April 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th. This week will be heavy on review and test-taking skills, with some fun sprinkled in as well, so please help your child be present and on time every day possible.

Great test prep!

Wanted: Anti-decorators

Intrigued? Before the Oklahoma tests, I have to cover our classroom walls, and all the posters and learning aids on them, with plain butcher paper. If I provide the paper, tape, and step ladder, would any of you provide the man-power and time? It's really a two-person job, so if any parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins out there have the time to help, I'd be really appreciative. It needs to be done just a day or two before the tests begin.

School Supplies Running Low

Our class is in need of more black Expo dry-erase markers and more glue sticks for community use. You might also check with your child about what personal school supplies he/she may need. We've been busy with that stuff all year.

Guided Inquiry

Your children have worked hard during class for several weeks to gather all the information they need to produce final products on their guided inquiry topic. We'll not be devoting much class time to it, so most of the remainder will need to be completed at home. Projects may be brought into class or, in the case of a digital project, e-mailed to me by Friday. A thumb drive or a link will also work. I sent home a paper explaining it all before the break. Please let me know if you need another copy.

Our academics this week

While we will be heavy on the state test prep, we'll still have our regular spelling test and multiplication quiz. Here's a link with this week's words.

The Academic Rundown

  • In reading, we'll focus on finding text evidence to answer questions and review figurative language.
  • In ELA, we'll review punctuation and parts of speech, with special attention to quotation marks.
  • In spelling, we'll study plural words.
  • In math, we'll tackle fractions on a a number line, probability, and lots of test review.
  • In social studies, your child's guided inquiry final project is due on Friday.
