LAKEVIEW ELEMENTARY
MAY 2021 NEWSLETTER
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is hard to believe that we have arrived to the last stretch of the school year! These next five weeks will be filled with end of year events, final assessments, and creating as many memories as possible.
We have made it onsite all year! It has been challenging and rewarding. We have seen so much growth in students, and are optimistic for the school year to come in the fall (after a much deserved summer of course haha).
I am so grateful to continue my Solon journey at Lakeview!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback. While I have not been able to be as present at Lakeview as I'd like to be, I am still here to support each and every one of you the best I can <3
Take care,
Ms. Tabor

2021 PRESCHOOL PREVIEW
Each year we host a Preschool Preview for upcoming parents & students to visit Lakeview. The paperwork we need you to fill out will be coming via mail. If you do not get them in the next week, please email us, there must have been an error with your address.
Envelope 1 will contain:
1. Preschool Questionnaire - Please fill this out about your child and have them complete the last page with limited to no help please.
2. Financial agreement - Please read and sign the financial agreement for the 2021-2022 school year. You keep the bottom, and return the top to us.
3. Friday No School Days - Each year the preschool teachers take part in professional development 1 Friday a month. On these Fridays, there is NO preschool. We wanted to get you the dates as soon as possible so you can arrange alternate care for your preschooler. (We will help explain this in more detail at preschool preview & at home visits.)
- If your child already does or will attend SLA before/after school program, they have in the past, agreed to take your preschooler there for the day. Please contact them.
- If your child will attend the Lakeview Before & After School Program (BASP), then they can come to Lakeview that day for an alternate PK day program covered by our associate staff.
- Other options are to reach out to family members (grandparents love these 1:1 days), neighbors, previous day care programs you’ve attended, etc.
Envelope 2 will contain:
Nurse/Medical Forms are stapled together and Mrs. Elijah (our school nurse) has wrote you a brief message stating what she needs done with each form. These forms will be filled out by your doctors and can be mailed in or faxed in (located at the bottom of the paper). Medical forms are due back by August 2nd.
Bring ALL documents with you to Preschool Preview on May 20th.
- Please have the questionnaire completed and ready to hand to the teachers. Medical forms do not yet need to be completed.
- Who comes to preschool preview? The child and their guardians. (Please do not bring other siblings along.)
- Parents will meet with the principal and children will go with the teachers.
- Arrive in the front entrance of Lakeview, we will be there to direct you.
Click here to sign up to attend Preschool Preview. There are 2 time options available (2:30-3:15 and 3:45-4:30)
Thank you so much. Please let us know if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you on May 20th!

SAVE THE DATE - PRESCHOOL GRADUATION
A few corrections to the flyer:
- We will not have a limit on guests per student. Given the number of preschool students, as well as the space within the CFA, we should be able to stay within the 400 person limit within the auditorium.
- We will not be providing a live stream option on preschool graduation day
Let Ms. Tabor or your child's preschool teacher know if you have any questions.
3RD GRADE TRANSITION TO INTERMEDIATE BUILDING!
Stay tuned for more information regarding the introduction of our new principal, Melissa Holtz, and our step-up day plans. If you have any questions about your student's transition, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Pentico, hpentico@solon.k12.ia.us, or Ms. Tabor, jtabor@solon.k12.ia.us.
CURRENT 2ND GRADE PARENTS
All students entering 3rd grade are required to have a vision screening prior to school starting in August (2021-2022 school year).
A screening will be valid if it is done no earlier than 1 year prior to the first day of school and no later than 6 months after the first day of school.
Below is a vision screening certificate that needs to be completed. The certificate can be faxed to 624-2518.
Please contact Mrs. Elijah with any questions about this state requirement.
2021 STEP UP DAY
Returning Edmentum student parents should communicate to Ms. Tabor or the front office by May 14th if they are planning to return to onsite learning in the fall and wish for their child to attend step up day.
MITIGATION
Thank you for your continued support as we approach warmer weather, the end stretch of the school year, and slight mitigation shifts. We have lifted restrictions around student library access and shared use of classroom materials. We will continue to follow health guidelines and assess current mitigation strategies as needed.
At this time, masks are still expected in the building when social distancing is not possible. Classrooms will continue to provide frequent mask breaks, as well as take advantage of the nicer weather with outdoor class time. Masks will not be required during recess when students are socially distanced.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child's classroom teacher with any questions.
PERSONAL PHONES & OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Let the classroom teacher or Ms. Tabor know if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support and cooperation!
