Fifth Grade NEWS
Week 16: December 15 - December 19
Learning Goals for the week...
Reading, Writing, & Social Studies
Reading & Writing: We complete our Author Study this week where Reading and Writing are combined as we write in response to what we are reading as well as learning how to write a complete opinion. We have finished Woods Runner and now we will complete our Book Discussion Group books looking for patterns in Gary Paulsen's writings. We will continue looking at topics for short essays to help readers understand parts in a text. We will complete this unit on Thursday with an assessment on Writing an Opinion. There are no spelling or vocabulary words this week.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE READING A MINIMUM OF 120 MINUTES PER WEEK AT HOME. Please continue to read over the Holiday Break.
Social Studies: Our classes continue to learn about the Constitution and how it guards against tyranny. We will begin to look at the Bill of Rights before and after winter break.
Math
Science
This week in Science we continue to look at weather and climate. Students will identify similarities and differences between weather and climate. We also be able to identify how weather patterns make good predictors of weather and discuss how air affects weather. The students will also be able to compare and contrast two different climates. The students need to also relate weather and climate back to erosion and weathering and these processes shape the surface of the earth.
